After a tragic accident robs competitive swimmer Mu Ran of his memories, he wakes up with only a name—Su Chen—burned into his heart. Following a friend's suggestion, Mu Ran embarks on a poignant road trip across Taiwan, hoping to piece together the fragments of his past and find the man he once loved. Along the way, he meets a series of unforgettable queer characters—an elderly gay couple celebrating 23 years together, a determined lesbian fighting family rejection, and a hotel owner torn between career and love. Each encounter becomes a mirror reflecting the beauty and pain of queer love, slowly unlocking Mu Ran's own story. More than a search for a lost boyfriend, this tender film is a meditation on memory, identity, and the courage to love again. With stunning Taiwanese landscapes and a hauntingly bittersweet ending, 'He's Out There Somewhere' is a heartfelt journey where the destination matters less than the souls you meet along the way.

I went in expecting a typical BL fluff, but this film broke me in the best way. The way Mu Ran slowly pieces together his love for Su Chen through strangers' memories just hit me right in the heart. The ending left me in tears, but it also felt so real and honest about love and loss. Not perfect, but incredibly moving.

The concept is sweet but the execution is messy. Mu Ran's ability to randomly meet the exact people who knew Su Chen is laughably convenient, and the flashbacks feel disjointed. The acting is average, and the cheap visual effects take me right out of it. I appreciate the attempt at representing queer lives, but it needed tighter writing.

What this film lacks in polish, it makes up for in heart and representation. I loved seeing intergenerational gay couples and lesbian stories woven into Mu Ran's journey—each one tackling real issues like family rejection and commitment. It's a quiet, respectful look at queer community beyond the romance. A flawed but important watch.

The cinematography saves this film for me. The shots of Taiwan's coastlines, night markets, and city streets are genuinely gorgeous and give the movie a dreamy, melancholic atmosphere. The color palette shifts beautifully between past and present. If only the acting and VFX matched that visual quality—still, I'd watch it again just for the scenery.
