This tender Chinese short film, based on a beloved novel, distills a lifetime of love into just 7 minutes. It follows two childhood playmates who grow up on the same campus, their innocent bond quietly deepening into a secret, devoted romance. The story unfolds with a gentle, wintery aesthetic, capturing fleeting moments of shared warmth—touching hands under a blanket, stealing glances through frosted windows—as they navigate the unspoken pressures of a society that rarely acknowledges love like theirs. At its core, the film asks a profound question: what does it mean to be the one by your partner's side from youth to old age? The narrative circles around a poignant quote that promises lifelong companionship, yet it also hints at the bittersweet fragility of such a dream. With a delicate touch, it avoids melodrama, instead letting silence and small gestures speak volumes. What makes this short special is its quiet defiance—a celebration of enduring love in a world that often demands invisibility. For those seeking a brief, emotionally resonant escape that lingers long after the credits roll, this is a hidden gem that proves even the shortest stories can hold the deepest feelings.

I'm a sucker for childhood friends to lovers and this short film gave me all the feels. The way they look at each other in the snow, the quiet hand-holding—it's pure magic. Yes, it's only 7 minutes, but it captured a lifetime of love. I've watched it three times and cry every time.

I wanted to like this, but it felt more like a teaser than a complete story. The pacing is rushed, and the supposed tragic undertone didn't land—I actually laughed at the dramatic pause before the kiss. The acting is wooden and the music is forgettable. It's an interesting idea but poorly executed.

Visually, this is a gem. The soft winter lighting, the close-ups of snowflakes on eyelashes, the warm indoor glow—every frame could be a painting. I wished for more, but what's there is beautifully shot. The direction understands how to say a lot with very little.

For a Chinese short film made in 2017, this is a brave little story. It doesn't shy away from showing a gay relationship as something natural and beautiful, even if the setting forces secrecy. The focus on mutual devotion and consent is refreshing. I just wish the dialogue had more depth to match its visual sincerity.
