A battered Chihiro awakes on a pile of trash, his wedding memories still raw, only to be confronted by Keito, a fiercely guarded young man from the night before. Their first encounter was violent, but Chihiro, desperate for connection, refuses to let Keito disappear. As they navigate a world of neglect, trauma, and hidden wounds, they discover an unlikely refuge in each other. This is not a fluffy romance; it's a raw, unflinching look at two souls scraping the bottom of society's barrel, learning to heal through the most broken of bonds. 'Happy of the End' is a Japanese drama that dares to show love blooming amidst the ugliest realities, offering a painfully beautiful testament to resilience and the transformative power of being seen.

This series shattered me in the best way. The acting is phenomenal—Beppu and Sawamura convey so much pain with just a look. It's not a comfortable watch, but the moments of light are so earned. The cinematography captures both the grime and the beauty. A must-watch for anyone who wants a BL that feels real and unflinching.

I appreciate the boldness, but the last two episodes felt like a different show—rushed, full of tropes, and with a villain’s suicide that made no sense. The first six episodes are gripping and raw, but the ending barely holds together. Still, the leads' performances and the atmosphere are strong enough to recommend with caveats.

Visually, this is one of the best BLs I've seen. The color grading is cold and desaturated, mirroring the characters' inner numbness, yet the few warm scenes burst with meaning. The lack of filters on the actors' faces adds a gritty realism. The soundtrack is sparse but perfectly placed. A treat for those who appreciate cinematic craft.

This drama doesn't romanticize trauma—it shows the ugly, systemic failures that create it. The depiction of child sex work, addiction, and family rejection is harrowing and unflinching. Yet it also shows how fragile, halting love can be a lifeline. It’s a socially important watch, but not for the faint of heart. Please heed the content warnings.

Having read the manga, I think the series captures the emotional core well but cuts some of the quieter character moments. The fried chicken scene lost its humor, and Haoren's internal thoughts are less explored. However, the acting is superb, especially Asari Yosuke's terrifying Maya. A worthy adaptation, even if it rushes the ending.
