In this tender and achingly nostalgic South Korean mini-series, bookstore owner Hyun stumbles upon an old high school diary, unlocking a flood of memories about his childhood best friend, Dongho. Through intimate flashbacks, we watch their youthful bond deepen into a secret, unspoken crush that Hyun never dared to confess. Now adults, the two reconnect in the present, dancing around the unresolved tension of the past. With its poetic diary entries, a stunningly natural performance from the leads, and a bittersweet atmosphere, *Happy Ending* is a beautifully quiet meditation on friendship, longing, and the courage to rewrite your own love story. Despite its short runtime, the series packs an emotional punch that lingers long after the final scene.

I was completely swept up in Hyun and Dongho's story. The diary flashbacks made every moment feel so intimate, and the actors have this unspoken connection that just melts my heart. Even though the ending left me wanting more, I still think it's one of the most beautiful short BLs I've seen. Strongberry never disappoints with emotional depth.

The production is polished and the performances are solid, but I can't get past that ending. After building up so much lovely tension, leaving the resolution completely open to interpretation feels like a cop-out. I get that some people like ambiguity, but for me, a 20-minute short should commit to a clear payoff. Still, the first two episodes are beautifully written.

Visually, this is a gem. The soft lighting in the bookstore, the warm color grading of the past scenes, and the careful framing of intimate conversations—every shot feels intentional. Even with a small budget, the director created a cinematic atmosphere that elevates the simple story. I especially loved the use of mirrors and reflections to hint at hidden feelings.

I appreciate that the series focuses on internal emotional conflict rather than forced drama or toxic tropes. The mutual pining is handled with sensitivity, and there's no pressure or coercion between the leads. However, the ambiguous ending frustrated me as a queer viewer—it felt like the director was afraid to show a definitive happy ending. Strongberry's CEO even acknowledged this misstep. Representation matters, especially in the final frame.

The music in *Happy Ending* is subtle but incredibly effective. The soft piano motifs during the diary readings and the gentle guitar strums in the present-day scenes perfectly underscore the nostalgia and longing. I wish the soundtrack were longer—I'd love to add it to my study playlist. The sound design never overwhelms the dialogue, letting the actors' voices carry the emotion.
