What if you could fall in love across time? *Happenstance* is a groundbreaking Filipino BL that weaves a melancholic yet beautiful tale of two men separated by nearly 50 years. In 2020, Wade, a young man nursing a broken heart, moves into an ancestral house in Manila during the pandemic. There, he discovers hidden love letters written by Jose Manuel, a gay man living under the brutal shadow of the Marcos dictatorship in 1974. Through a mystical mirror and a lunar event, the two begin to communicate, forging an intense, impossible connection. More than just a romance, the series bravely juxtaposes the oppression of martial law with the isolating lockdowns of COVID-19, exploring how love can bloom even in the most confined spaces. With its poetic dialogue, stunning cinematography set in a gorgeous old home, and a refusal to rely on tired BL tropes, *Happenstance* is a thought-provoking, soulful drama about longing, fate, and the painful price of history. It’s a love letter that transcends time—but can it transcend tragedy?

I went into this knowing it would be sad, but I wasn't prepared for how beautiful and heartbreaking it would be. The way Wade and Jose Manuel communicate through the mirror gave me chills - their longing felt so real even if the acting wasn't perfect. I sobbed at the ending, but honestly, it was worth every tear. A unique love story.

The concept is a solid 10/10 - but the execution? More like a 5. The pacing drags terribly in the middle episodes, and the time-travel rules feel inconsistent. I wanted to love the characters but the flat performances made it hard to invest. Still, I respect the attempt to mix BL with Philippine history. Could have been so much better.

Oh my God, the lighting and the color grading in this series are dreamy. That old house is practically a character itself - I paused so many times just to admire the shots. The mirror framing was cleverly ambiguous, even if the audio quality drove me crazy. Visually, it's one of the most beautiful BLs I've ever seen. Shame the script couldn't match.

I can't stop thinking about this series. It's not just a romance - it's a searing indictment of the Marcos regime and how state violence has always targeted queer people. The parallels between Wade's lockdown isolation and Jose Manuel's imprisonment under martial law are brilliant. Yes, the acting is rough, but the story's courage and emotional truth blew me away. A must-watch for anyone interested in queer history.

I really wanted to like this more. The idea of two guys separated by decades falling in love is my jam, but the leads had zero chemistry for me. Wade felt like a brick wall of emotion, and the side plot with Luis took way too much time. I had to force myself to finish it. Great concept, poor romantic payoff. Disappointed.
