On the night before his wedding, Francis’ carefully constructed world shatters when his fiancée Leah uncovers his secret identity as a gay man. Forced to confront the truth, Francis must navigate the devastating fallout—his father’s rejection, Leah’s heartbreak, and his own long-suppressed self. This raw, emotionally charged short film from the Philippines captures the painful crossroads of duty, faith, and identity. With no easy answers, *Gasa sa Gugma* is a poignant, intimate portrait of courage and the heavy price of living authentically.

I was in tears by the end. The pain in Francis’ eyes and Leah’s quiet devastation felt so real. It’s a short but incredibly powerful look at love that can’t be lived out loud. I wish there were more stories like this.

The premise is important, but the short runtime makes the character turn feel rushed. Francis’ confession comes out of nowhere, and we don’t get enough backstory to really feel the weight of the situation. It’s more of a dramatic scene than a complete story.

The lighting and framing are surprisingly polished for a short indie film. The close‑ups during the confrontation scene capture every micro‑expression beautifully. A little more time for pacing would have made it perfect.

I appreciate that the film shows the real harm of forced heteronormativity—Francis is a victim, not a villain. But the father’s homophobic outburst felt a bit one‑dimensional. Still, it’s a necessary conversation starter about how coming out affects everyone involved.

The background score is subtle but perfectly complements the tension and sadness. The single piano theme that swells during the final scene broke me. I wish they’d release the soundtrack separately.
