Set in a sleepy convenience store on the outskirts of town, 'Futureless Things' weaves together the lives of its employees and customers in an unsettling, darkly comic tapestry. At 7:00 AM, new part-timer Ki Chul is trained by Ha Na, a woman nursing a broken heart. As Ki Chul struggles to confess his own feelings for Ha Na, a series of seemingly mundane interactions—with a debt-ridden mother, a cryptic old man, and a troubled schoolboy—unfurl into a web of interconnected tragedies. What begins as a slice-of-life workplace comedy slowly morphs into a haunting meditation on chance, regret, and the hidden secrets that bind strangers. This Korean indie film uses its limited setting to deliver an atmospheric, nonlinear narrative that rewards attentive viewers with a chilling final twist. For BL fans, the film offers an understated gay male lead and a lesbian storyline, but the romance is just one thread in a larger, existential puzzle. Prepare for a slow-burn experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

I watched this for the gay undertones and wasn't disappointed. Ki Chul's quiet yearning felt so real, even though the romance never fully blossoms. The convenience store setting is oddly cozy, but the ending completely blindsided me. Definitely not a feel-good watch, but powerful.

I appreciate what the director tried to do with the nonlinear timeline, but the execution was messy. I spent half the movie wondering who was who. The 'twist' felt forced and left me more confused than satisfied. Good acting, but the story needed tighter editing.

This film quietly critiques how society ignores the vulnerable. The lesbian and gay characters are portrayed with dignity, not fetishized. The debt storyline and mother-son relationship are heartbreakingly accurate about class struggle. It's slow, but for those who care about social context, it's a gem.

The cinematography is fantastic for a low-budget indie. The way the camera lingers on the fluorescent lights of the convenience store creates a sterile, isolating atmosphere. Color grading shifts subtly between timelines. A visual treat even if the plot drags.
