A poignant love story that spans four decades, *Forever 17* follows Ricky, an elderly man grappling with the recent loss of his partner, Roger. As he tidies their shared bed, memories of their life together come flooding back, transporting us to the vibrant beginnings of their romance in Hong Kong. The film masterfully weaves between past and present, tracing the couple's journey from secret meetings and coming out to the quiet joys and hardships of a lifelong commitment. What elevates this short film is its tender reimagining of the future: in 2029, Hong Kong legalizes same-sex marriage, offering a bittersweet glimpse of what could have been. With understated performances and a deeply human script, *Forever 17* captures the ache of loss while celebrating the enduring power of love.

I went in thinking 30 minutes couldn't possibly do justice to a love story, but I was so wrong. The casting is perfect, and the acting—especially from the older actors—is incredibly moving. It hit me right in the soft spot without forcing tears. This deserves a full feature or series.

A thoughtful cross-section of Ricky and Roger's lives, though I found the brief lesbian wedding insertion distracting. The political hopefulness about 2029 is idealistic given Hong Kong's reality, but the core human drama between the two men is deep and would have worked even better as a mini-series. Still, a solid 30 minutes.

Visually stunning for a short film—the use of warm, hazy flashbacks contrasted with cold, lonely present-day shots perfectly mirrors Ricky's grief. The bed-tidying motif is beautifully framed. Every frame feels intentional and emotionally charged.

I appreciate the film's sensitive handling of a senior gay couple, a demographic rarely centered in BL. The struggle for marriage equality is woven in without being preachy. However, the infidelity subplot felt glossed over, and the 30-minute runtime limits deeper exploration of consent and aging. Still, an important watch.
