Fashion designer Mizuki Ritsu returns to Japan after years abroad, moving into an apartment with his boss's two sons: Sho, a reclusive teenager who refuses to leave his room, and his younger brother Ryo. As Ritsu tries to break through Sho's walls, he uncovers a web of hidden traumas, unspoken desires, and a love triangle that twists into something far darker. What begins as a story of healing quickly spirals into a psychological thriller where family bonds, obsession, and secrets collide in shocking ways. With its slow-burn unraveling of truth and a jaw-dropping climax, *Forbidden Love* is a haunting, unconventional drama that lingers long after the credits roll.

I appreciate that the film tries to be a psychological thriller, but the execution falls flat. The characters are cardboard cutouts, the 'mystery' is solved with a single clumsy conversation, and the ending feels like shock for shock's sake. A longer, more fleshed-out remake could have worked, but this is just frustrating.

I admit I watched this for the ending everyone talks about, and wow—the visual symbolism with the white cloth and the final tableau is genuinely haunting. The music and lighting create an oppressive atmosphere, but the plot is so choppy that the visuals can't save it. Still, as a mood piece, it's interesting.

The power dynamics in this film are deeply uncomfortable. Ritsu is Sho's tutor and surrogate caretaker, and the romanticization of that relationship—paired with the incest subplot—feels exploitative rather than thought-provoking. The acting is decent, but the narrative lacks any moral grounding. I can't recommend it to anyone concerned with healthy representation.

The instrumental score is surprisingly good—it really amplifies the eerie, melancholic vibe. But the music alone can't save a story that goes nowhere until the last ten minutes. The sound design is one of the few elements that feels professional.

I went in hoping for a sweet, angsty romance, but this is anything but. There's zero chemistry that feels genuine, and the 'romance' is quickly overshadowed by creepy obsession and a brother who's just... the worst. The ending left me feeling sick, not moved. Definitely not what I wanted.
