Fong and Fang have been a devoted gay couple for eight years, weathering life's storms together. When Taiwan makes history by legalizing same-sex marriage, Fong's family—desperate for him to carry on the bloodline—intensifies their pressure, while Fang dreams of a wedding. Torn between his partner's heartfelt proposal and his family's expectations, Fong hesitates. To complicate matters, a teenage pregnancy enters the picture, forcing both men to rethink what family and commitment truly mean. This heartfelt Taiwanese film explores the messy, tender reality of a long-term relationship under strain, blending comedy and drama as Fong and Fang navigate societal and personal hurdles. With a focus on unconditional love, acceptance, and the courage to define happiness on one's own terms, 'Baby Maybe' is a refreshingly honest look at queer relationships beyond the honeymoon phase.

I absolutely adored the chemistry between Fong and Fang. You can feel the eight years of history in every glance and argument. The proposal conflict broke my heart but also made me root for them even harder. A sweet, realistic love story that deserves more attention!

The premise is great, but the execution feels rushed. The teenage pregnancy subplot comes out of nowhere and isn't given enough space to breathe. The ending resolves too neatly. Still, the core relationship is well-acted, and the cultural context is valuable. A decent watch if you lower expectations.

Visually, this film is warm and inviting. The color grading uses soft yellows and greens that perfectly mirror the bittersweet tone. The close-ups during the emotional confrontations are beautifully framed. Not groundbreaking, but a pleasant viewing experience for those who appreciate gentle cinematography.

I appreciate that Taiwan is making BL films about real post-legalization challenges, but this one fumbles the handling of family pressure and the pregnancy plot. The female character's agency is sidelined, and the consent around the baby's situation feels glossed over. Worth discussing, but not a comfortable watch for me.
