In this tender South Korean short film, Dong Min, an art major living with complete colorblindness, faces a seemingly impossible assignment: create a piece about his favorite color. The irony is not lost on him—how can he choose a color he's never truly seen? Enter Gyeong Jun, his charismatic and gentle crush, whose favorite color is sky blue. As Dong Min embarks on this project, he finds himself drawn not only to the elusive concept of blue but to Gyeong Jun’s warmth and patience. Through quiet moments of shared sketchbooks, hushed studio conversations, and a daring confession, the film paints a poignant portrait of love beyond the spectrum. 'Favorite Color' uses its unique premise to ask: can we truly love something we cannot see? With stunning visual metaphors and a slow-burn romance that feels both intimate and universal, this short gem captures the breathtaking vulnerability of falling for someone who opens your world to new hues—both literal and emotional. Perfect for a cozy evening, it’s a reminder that love, like color, is felt before it is understood.

I am absolutely melted by Dong Min and Gyeong Jun's chemistry. The way Dong Min feels the color blue through Gyeong Jun's eyes is one of the most romantic things I've ever seen. That final scene had me in tears. Perfect short film for anyone who loves soft, emotional BL.

The visual storytelling here is stunning. They use desaturated tones for Dong Min's world and slowly introduce pastel blues as he connects with Gyeong Jun. The lighting in the art studio is dreamlike. It's a masterclass in showing rather than telling—perfect for a short film format.

The idea is creative, but the execution feels a bit rushed. We barely get to know either character beyond their surface traits, and the conflict (the assignment) resolves too easily. I wanted more depth about how colorblindness actually affects Dong Min's art. It's fine for a heartwarming one-shot, but not a standout.

The soft piano pieces during the sketchbook scenes are gorgeous—they perfectly echo the tentative first steps of love. There's also a gentle acoustic guitar theme that plays when Dong Min finally 'sees' sky blue. I wish the short had a longer OST, but what's there is beautifully chosen.

I appreciate that the film handles disability with care—Dong Min's colorblindness isn't a tragedy but a different way of experiencing the world. The romance develops with clear consent and mutual respect; Gyeong Jun never pressures him. It's a wholesome portrayal of a gay relationship that avoids toxic tropes. A small but meaningful step for representation.
