In a fantastical reimagining of Japan's classic Heike-Genji conflict, a world exists where only men inhabit the land—the opulent Heike thrive on the surface, while the torn Genji endure in underground winter caves. The story follows Nao Nao, the second prince of Genji, who ventures above ground to a dazzling masquerade hosted by the Heike. Amid swirling masks and glittering deception, he encounters a mysterious figure whose gaze sparks an undeniable connection. But in a realm divided by ancient grudges and unspoken rules, love between rival clans is forbidden. As Nao Nao navigates the treacherous politics of the Heike court and the secrets of his own heart, he must decide if he can trust the stranger who sees beyond his royal facade—and whether their bond can bridge the chasm between two warring worlds. This third installment of the Les Garcons-Bonbons series blends ethereal fantasy, tender romance, and dramatic tensions, offering a visually stunning and emotionally resonant tale of identity, sacrifice, and the courage to love against all odds.

I absolutely adored the chemistry between Nao Nao and his mysterious Heike prince! The masquerade scene where they first lock eyes gave me chills. This is pure romantic fantasy done right—sweet, longing, and visually breathtaking. If you love forbidden love stories, this is a must-watch.

The premise is intriguing, but the execution felt rushed. The political conflicts between Heike and Genji are barely explored, and the romance develops too quickly without real obstacles. I wanted more depth in the worldbuilding and character motivations. Still, the film is pretty to look at.

This film is a visual poem. The lighting during the masquerade, the icy blue tones of the Genji caves, and the intricate costume design are all stunning. Each frame could be a painting. As a cinematography enthusiast, I was completely swept away by the atmosphere.

The score is haunting and beautiful, especially during the romantic sequences. My only complaint is that I wish there were more songs—the few instrumental themes are repeated a bit too often. Still, the music perfectly complements the fairy-tale mood.

I appreciated that the romance develops with clear mutual respect and no toxic power dynamics—rare in rivalry-based stories. However, the class inequality between Heike and Genji is glossed over, and I would have liked more critique of the social structures. Still, a charming love story with good intentions.
