In a world where obsession and brutality intertwine, *Double Mints* plunges into the lives of two men named Ichikawa Mitsuo—bound by name and a twisted past. When one Mitsuo, a yakuza underling, murders his girlfriend, he calls upon his high school classmate—the other Mitsuo—who once submitted to him as a 'dog.' What follows is a claustrophobic dance of domination, codependency, and dark desire as they attempt to dispose of the body and escape their violent fate. Through haunting cinematography and a cello-laced score, this 2017 Japanese film explores love as a perverse union of broken halves, referencing Plato's myth of the androgynous soul. For viewers seeking a raw, psychological thriller that masquerades as a romance, *Double Mints* offers a grim yet captivating journey into the depths of human connection.

I am absolutely obsessed with this film. The twisted chemistry between the two Mitsuos is unlike anything else in BL. It's raw, painful, and utterly captivating. If you want a fluffy love story, run away; if you want to feel gutted in the best way, jump in.

This is exactly the kind of toxic, obsessive relationship drama I live for. The master-servant dynamic is portrayed with such nuance—every glance and gesture says more than dialogue ever could. I just wish it had been longer to explore their pasts.

I appreciate the attempt at dark psychological storytelling, but the editing is a mess. Time jumps are confusing and the crime subplot feels half-baked. The acting carries it, but the script needed more cohesion. Honestly, a struggle to finish.

Visually striking despite the low budget. The use of mirrors and desaturated colors perfectly mirrors the characters' fractured identities. The cello soundtrack adds an ominous layer that heightened every tense scene. A director with a strong eye.

I struggle with films that present non-consensual dynamics as romantic without critical examination. The rape scene is uncomfortable and feels exploitative rather than artistically necessary. There's a fine line between exploring darkness and glorifying abuse—this crosses it.
