A quiet, rain-soaked night in an unnamed Chinese city becomes the backdrop for an unexpected encounter in 'Don't Want You to Be Alone', a tender short film that captures the ache of loneliness and the fleeting solace of human connection. When Xiao, a young man nursing old wounds, meets Lin, a stranger seeking shelter under the same awning, their brief exchange over a shared umbrella and a warm drink unravels layers of unspoken grief and longing. With no grand declarations, the film lets silence and small gestures speak volumes—a lingering glance, a hesitant touch, a whispered offer of company. Set against muted cityscapes and intimate close-ups, this 2017 gem explores what it means to not want someone to face the world alone, even if only for one night. A poignant, slice-of-life romance that proves the most profound connections are often the quietest.

I stumbled upon this little short film and it completely stole my heart. The way they communicate everything through their eyes and those tiny, hesitant movements—pure magic. It's so rare to see a BL that understands 'less is more'. I cried a little at the ending. Beautiful.

Visually stunning for a low-budget short. The rain-washed streets and warm indoor lighting create a gorgeous contrast. The story is wafer-thin though—basically a meet-cute stretched to 20 minutes. Still, I appreciate the effort and the genuine chemistry between the leads.

Honestly, it's too slow for me. I get what they were going for, but the pacing drags and nothing really happens. The dialogue is almost nonexistent. If you like minimalist romance, you'll love it. I needed more substance to justify the runtime.

As someone who has felt profoundly alone, this film spoke directly to my heart. The way Lin offers to stay with Xiao—not out of pity, but out of shared humanity—is so rare in media. It's a short, perfect moment. No triggers, just healing. Please watch it.

I appreciated that the characters establish clear boundaries and consent before any physical closeness. That said, the film doesn't really explore deeper issues of identity or family—it's just a gentle vignette. Good for what it is, but not groundbreaking.
