A farewell trip to a remote mountain house reunites eight school friends, but their weekend of nostalgia and partying takes a nightmarish turn when they stumble upon an old short film they made together — one that features a mysterious masked figure named Non, a classmate who vanished years ago. As eerie events begin to mirror the film's plot, old secrets resurface, exposing a web of bullying, betrayal, manipulation, and trauma that none of them have ever truly escaped. Part psychological thriller, part revenge horror, *Dead Friend Forever* (DFF) is a raw, unflinching exploration of how far guilt and buried pain can drive people. With standout performances, especially from Barcode as the tragic Non, and a haunting atmosphere from director Ma-Deaw Chookiat Sakveerakul, this series is less a conventional BL romance and more a dark, character-driven mystery that asks: What happens when the sins of the past refuse to stay buried? A must-watch for anyone craving something bold, messy, and emotionally brutal.

As someone who studies power dynamics in media, DFF is a brutal triumph. Non's grooming by Teacher Keng is handled with uncomfortable realism — the coercion isn't just physical but emotional and psychological. The show refuses to let the audience off the hook, forcing us to sit with the systemic failures that allowed this abuse. Barcode's raw performance makes every manipulative moment hit like a punch. I dock one star because the victim-blaming discourse in the fandom is exhausting, but the series itself is a necessary, ugly mirror.

Visually, this is one of the best-looking Thai BLs I've seen. The lighting in the mountain house — all those deep shadows and cold blues — creates an oppressive, claustrophobic mood that matches the story perfectly. The mask design is genuinely creepy, and the shot compositions often feel like a well-made horror film. That said, the flashback-heavy editing hurt the pacing, and I wish the cinematography had been put to better use in the final episode instead of feeling rushed. Still, a feast for the eyes.

I really wanted to love this, but the plotting is a mess. The first four episodes are boring and confusing, then the flashback episodes dump too much information in a way that kills the thriller momentum. And don't get me started on the finale — that 'open ending' felt less like an artistic choice and more like the writers ran out of time. So many loose ends, and the supernatural explanation felt like a cop-out. Barcode's acting is the only thing that kept me watching, but a great performance can't fix a broken script.

Okay, I came for the horror but stayed for the twisted emotional core. Non and Phee's story absolutely wrecked me — the flashbacks of their tentative friendship and the way Non's hope was slowly crushed was devastating. And the Phee/Jin dynamic at the end was so frustrating yet compelling. I know people hate that Jin got a 'happy' ending, but I think the ambiguity is fitting. Not a typical romance, but the love and pain in this show are so real. Barcode and Ta deserve awards!

Jeff Satur's voice is always a gift, and his OST track 'Why Don't You Stay' perfectly captures the aching sadness at the heart of this series. The score during the horror sequences is effective — those discordant strings and low drones really build tension. But honestly, I felt the music was underutilized in the middle episodes. Too many long stretches of silence or generic ambient sound when a stronger musical cue could have elevated the emotional beats. Still, Jeff's song alone makes it worth a listen.
