Dark Blue and Moonlight is a raw, emotionally charged Taiwanese BL that dares to explore the messy, beautiful, and often painful realities of love. The story follows Hai Qing, a passionate young art student grappling with depression and a stifling family expectation to pursue a stable career, and Yan Fei, a composed marketing director trapped in a stagnant relationship with his long-term boyfriend, Jimmy. Their worlds collide one fateful day at a swimming pool, where a stolen glance ignites an instant, almost magnetic connection—a love at first sight that neither can forget, even when they are cruelly separated by circumstance. Over the course of a year, Hai Qing finds solace in the gentle, unwavering affection of Pin Jun, a kind-hearted tutor who sees beyond his scars, while Yan Fei drifts further from Jimmy, unable to ignore the memory of the stranger by the pool. When fate reunites the two, they must confront the weight of their choices, the pain they’ve caused, and the question of whether true love can justify the hurt left in its wake. What makes this series special is its unflinching honesty: there are no perfect heroes or villains—only flawed, deeply human characters making selfish yet relatable decisions. The show’s masterful use of the color blue—as a visual motif for longing, sadness, and the rare moments of clear connection—adds a poetic layer to every scene. With a haunting soundtrack and a narrative that refuses to shy away from infidelity, mental illness, and the loneliness of being misunderstood, Dark Blue and Moonlight offers a refreshingly adult perspective on romance. It’s not a fairy tale; it’s a reflection of life’s complicated, bittersweet truths.

I went into this expecting a typical fluffy BL, but wow, this hit different. Yes, the main couple is messy and they make terrible decisions, but I couldn't help rooting for them. That first meeting at the pool? The way they look at each other? That's soulmate energy, even if the world around them is crumbling. I actually cried during the hospital scene. It's not a perfect love story, but it feels real, and that's what I loved. Also, the kiss scenes are intense—definitely satisfying for a romantic like me.

I watched this for Pin Jun and honestly, he deserved so much better. He was the only genuinely good person in the whole show. I kept hoping he'd find someone who truly loved him back, but nope—he just gets hurt over and over. The main couple? They frustrated me to no end. Their 'love' felt selfish. I'm giving it a 6 because the acting was decent and I loved the grandpa, but I can't recommend this if you're sensitive to seeing a kind character get the short end of the stick.

The premise had potential but the execution was messy. So many plot holes—like how did they never run into each other at the same gym for a whole year? And the whole phone-throwing incident felt forced. The pacing dragged in the middle and the characters made illogical decisions just to fuel drama. I appreciate that they tried to be 'realistic', but realism without coherent plotting just feels frustrating. The music is nice though, and the blue color motif is clever. But overall, not my cup of tea.

I’m a sucker for visual storytelling, and this series is a feast. The way the director uses different shades of blue to represent longing, sadness, and fleeting happiness is genius. Every frame looks like a painting—the pool scenes, the art studio, even the awkward family dinners. The color grading alone makes this worth watching. Yes, the story is divisive, but visually, it’s one of the most stunning BLs I’ve ever seen. The poster doesn’t lie—this is art.

The main theme by MaxLin is an absolute masterpiece. I immediately downloaded it after the first episode. The music throughout the series complements every emotional beat—from the melancholic piano when Hai Qing is alone to the swelling strings during the romantic flashbacks. Even the background tracks are memorable. I honestly think the soundtrack elevated the drama from a 6 to a 9 for me. If you love music that makes you feel everything, this is a must-watch.

This series is a difficult watch because it normalizes cheating and emotional manipulation within relationships. I get that it's meant to be 'realistic', but I worry about how it portrays depression and infidelity as intertwined with 'true love'. The leads are toxic to each other and to their partners. That said, I appreciate that the show doesn’t shy away from showing the consequences—especially Jimmy’s pain and Pin Jun’s quiet heartbreak. It sparked some important conversations for me about boundaries and self-worth. Watch it with a critical eye.

I know a lot of people hate the main couple, but for me, Yan Fei and Hai Qing's connection felt electric. That first kiss in the pool? I rewound it three times. Yes, they hurt people, but I’ve seen worse in real life. The show made me think about whether love can excuse our worst actions. I cried for Jimmy and Pin Jun too, but I still cheered when the leads finally got together at the end. The special episode gave me closure. Not a perfect show, but it made me feel deeply.

I wanted to love this because I'm a fan of Taiwanese BL, but it fell flat for me. The acting was uneven—some scenes felt like the actors were reading lines. The crying scenes were especially cringey. Also, the pacing was all over the place: the first few episodes were slow, then the time skip happened and everything got rushed. I liked the grandpa and the music, but the main story needed tighter writing. Watch only if you're in the mood for angst and don't mind a flawed narrative.
