Cutie Pie 2 You picks up right where the first season left off, offering fans a sweet, satisfying slice-of-life look at Lian and Kuea’s journey to the altar. Kuea has just graduated from university, and Lian is ecstatic to finally start planning their wedding—but there’s a dream that’s been holding Kuea back. Beneath his poised exterior, Kuea’s alter ego Kirin yearns for a career in music, and he worries that saying ‘I do’ might mean giving up that part of himself. Meanwhile, Yi and Diao are navigating their own slowly thawing romance, while Nuer and Syn explore the tender, awkward first steps of physical intimacy. The four-episode miniseries strips away much of the frustrating miscommunication that plagued season one, replacing it with open conversations, clear consent, and emotional vulnerability. With gorgeous cinematography, heartfelt performances from the entire cast, and a focus on the legal and emotional significance of same-sex marriage, Cutie Pie 2 You feels like a warm hug for anyone who fell in love with these characters. It’s less a plot-driven drama and more a celebration of love in all its forms—with plenty of steamy, lovingly shot NC scenes, PPL-laden spa dates, and Foei’s comedic relief to keep things light. Director and cast treat this as a gift to fans, and while the story is thin, the emotional payoff is immense.

I am rarely moved to tears by a BL, but Cutie Pie 2 You broke me in the best way. This is not a show—it’s a gift. Every look Zee gives NuNew is pure adoration, and the wedding night scene had me sobbing because of how tender and vulnerable they were with each other. Yes, the plot is simple, but that’s the whole point: to show us love that is certain, communicative, and safe. Kuea’s struggle with his dream felt real, and Lian’s unwavering support melted my heart. If you loved the first season, this will complete you.

I appreciate that this season actually addresses consent head-on. Lian telling Kuea he won’t go further because Kuea is drunk was a huge improvement over season one’s problematic moments. However, the show still struggles with its power dynamics—Kuea feels infantilized, and the other couples also lean into a parental/child dynamic. The show is enjoyable fluff, but I wish the writing had evolved beyond that trope. Also, why did Kuea have to apologize to his harasser? That rubbed me the wrong way.

I only watched for Syn and Nuer, and even their cuteness couldn't save this. The main couple gets 80% of the screen time, and I’m so tired of Lian treating Kuea like a child. NuerSyn’s first intimate scene was sweet and awkwardly realistic—I wanted more of that! But the rest is just product placement, repetitive wedding prep, and cringe comedy. Yi/Diao were barely there. A 1-hour special would have been enough. Skip it unless you absolutely worship ZeeNunew.

Pointless. Absolutely pointless. Four episodes of wedding fluff with zero narrative drive. Kuea still can't communicate worth a damn, and Lian is a walking green flag who apparently has no personality besides being rich and in love. The conflict about Kuea’s singing career is resolved in the most boring way possible. Every NC scene is the same—slow, dimly lit, with dramatic music trying to make it feel profound. I felt like I was watching a 4-hour advertisement for a spa. Do yourself a favor and rewatch a good BL instead.

Visually, this is a treat. The color grading is warm and dreamy, especially during the Japan location scenes. The costume design—Lian in those suits, Kuea in soft pastels—perfectly mirrors their dynamic. I loved the intimate post-wedding scene: the camera lingers on their faces instead of bodies, and you can feel every bit of vulnerability. The editing is a bit clunky with that flash-forward, but overall it’s a feast for the eyes. Soundtrack didn't always match the mood, but NuNew's vocals are gorgeous.

The music is the best part of this special. NuNew’s OSTs, especially the ones he performs in the series, are sweet and heartfelt—I’ve had them on repeat. But the background score is oddly mismatched. There’s a lighthearted comedy scene with a dramatic orchestral swell that made me laugh for the wrong reasons. The sound mixing during the NC scenes is very… breathy. Overall, if you want to hear NuNew sing, watch the live performances on YouTube instead of sitting through the thin plot.

As someone who read the original novel, I was hoping for more of Kuea’s internal conflict about being Kirin. The book handled his double life with more nuance. Here it feels like an afterthought solved by a single conversation. I also missed the rawer version of Lian from the source material—he’s too sanitized and perfect on screen. The wedding scene was beautiful, but the deviation from the novel’s timeline undercut the emotional weight. Still, for fans of the show who haven’t read it, this will be fine.
