What happens when the spark dies in a decade-long relationship? In *Customized Companion*, Xiao Feng and Hao Wen are a couple trapped in the quiet agony of routine. Their love has faded into resentment and longing for something—or someone—new. Enter a mysterious phone app that summons a hyper-realistic virtual companion, tailored to your every desire. Hoping to recapture the passion they've lost, each man secretly turns to the app, only to find themselves entangled in a psychological and emotional maze. Is a perfect digital lover the answer to a failing human heart, or does true love require imperfection? This 2017 Chinese BL film blends sci-fi with raw romantic drama, delivering a thought-provoking story about the boundaries of love, technology, and the courage to fight for what you already have. With stunning cinematography and intense performances from Sky Li and Su Bai, this is a unique, bittersweet ride that will leave you questioning the nature of connection itself.

I absolutely loved this! The chemistry between Xiao Feng and Hao Wen is electric, even when they're fighting. The way they look at each other—ugh, my heart. And that ending? Perfect bittersweetness. I cried and smiled at the same time. Definitely a unique BL that stays with you.

Visually stunning for a low-budget film. The lighting during the virtual companion scenes is hauntingly beautiful—all soft glows and cold blues. The camera lingers on the actors' faces in a way that amplifies every ounce of longing and regret. A treat for the eyes.

Great concept, but the execution falls flat. The characters don't grow—they just swirl in the same misery until the ending. The virtual lover subplot feels disconnected, and the happy ending feels unearned. I wanted to root for them, but there's no real effort shown. Disappointing.

The music is a highlight—Hao Wen's piano compositions and vocals carry so much sorrow. The recurring theme perfectly mirrors the story's aching nostalgia. However, the audio mixing is quite poor in places, almost underwater. If they remastered it, I'd rate higher.

An interesting exploration of emotional neglect and the fantasy of the 'perfect partner'—but it misses a chance to critique toxic relationship patterns. Both characters avoid confronting their issues, and the app becomes a band-aid. The ending suggests that just sticking together is enough, which I find problematic.
