When Taiwanese student Jie Cheng (Hsu Yu Ting) falls head over heels for Eric (Benjamin Turman), a rebellious American exchange student, he makes the life-altering decision to leave everything behind and move to the United States. But what starts as a whirlwind romance soon hits the rocky shores of reality—cultural clashes, family pressure, and Eric’s looming graduation put their love to the test. Shot against Taiwan’s breathtaking landscapes, including the island’s most dangerous road, this short film from director Steven Liang is a poignant, intimate exploration of first love, sacrifice, and the painful search for belonging. With a haunting soundtrack and and a deeply empathetic lens, Coming Home asks: can you ever truly return to the person you were before you gave your heart away?

This short film broke me in the best way. The chemistry between Jie Cheng and Eric felt so real, and I loved how the road trip mirrored their emotional journey. The ending had me in tears but also left a sliver of hope. A must-watch for anyone who believes in the power of first love.

Visually stunning—the cinematography captures Taiwan's landscapes like a love letter. The acting is solid, especially Hsu Yu Ting's nuanced portrayal of internal conflict. However, the short runtime makes some emotional beats feel rushed. Still, an impactful piece of queer cinema.

I wanted to love it more. The story is sweet but predictable, and the conflict with the mother is resolved too easily. The dialogue feels a bit stilted in places, and I wish the film had explored Eric's perspective deeper. A decent short, but not groundbreaking.

As someone in an intercultural relationship, this film hit close to home. The depiction of coming out to a traditional parent, the language barriers, and the fear of losing yourself for love are all handled with care. I appreciated that Eric wasn't just a perfect savior—he had flaws too. Important representation.

The song 'I Need Your Love' by Grace is absolutely haunting and elevates every scene. The soundtrack alone makes this worth watching. The emotional climax hit me hard because the music perfectly underscored the pain and longing. A beautiful short film that lingers.
