When newlyweds Jack and Aui move into their dream home with a lush garden, they find kindred spirits in their neighbors, Palm and Tai, who share their passion for plants. But beneath the blooming flower beds lies a tangled web of secrets. Jack, a quietly closeted man, feels an irresistible pull toward Palm, who is trapped in a strained marriage of convenience. As the two men grow closer, a dangerous affair begins to flower, threatening to uproot both households. Based on a real-life story from a Thai radio confession, this miniseries doesn’t shy away from the messy, painful realities of forbidden love, internalized shame, and the collateral damage of living a lie. With its grounded performances and culturally nuanced storytelling, *Club Friday Season 9: Rak Tong Laek* serves a raw, unflinching slice of life that will leave you thinking long after the credits roll.

I appreciate the attempt to tackle real issues, but the execution was clunky. The pacing dragged in the middle, and Jack’s actor felt wooden in several key scenes. The melodrama often outweighed genuine emotion, and the ending left me unsatisfied rather than thoughtful.

This drama earns points for its unflinching look at the damage closeted lives cause—to spouses, children, and the individuals themselves. The wives are given real agency and pain, not just plot devices. However, the casual homophobia in the writing (intentionally shown) may be hard to watch. It’s a necessary conversation starter.

Yes, it’s messy and sad, but that’s exactly why I loved it. The forbidden glances between Jack and Palm broke my heart. Their chemistry felt real and aching—two men terrified of wanting each other. The finale crushed me, but in the best way. Not for fluff lovers, but I’ll never forget this story.

The garden metaphor is nicely captured—decaying leaves, overgrown vines mirroring the characters’ stagnation. But the camera work feels more TV drama than cinematic, and some scenes are oddly lit. I wanted more visual poetry to match the emotional weight. Still, a few frames are genuinely striking.
