Close Friend Season 2 picks up the threads of two beloved couples from the anthology’s first season, weaving their stories together with more depth and intimacy. Pierce, a songwriter still terrified of coming out, introduces his long-term boyfriend Typhoon as merely a ‘junior’ to his parents—a painful compromise that tests their bond. Meanwhile, idol Jedi and his devoted boyfriend Ray navigate the treacherous waters of a secret relationship under the glare of public scrutiny, with leaked photos and online mobs threatening to tear them apart. As their lives intertwine through work and friendship—Typhoon and Ray become close confidants, while Pierce writes songs for Jedi—the series explores the quiet courage it takes to love openly. With only six tight episodes, this season focuses entirely on these two couples, allowing their emotional journeys to breathe. From the office awkwardness of workplace romance to the high-stakes drama of an idol’s closet, Close Friend Season 2 serves up a heartfelt blend of angst, warmth, and hard-won hope.

I am absolutely living for Kimmon and Copter in this season! Their chemistry is off the charts—every scene between Jedi and Ray had me kicking my feet. The way Jedi fights for Ray despite the fame pressure, and Ray’s adorable pouts… pure BL gold. Pierce and Typhoon’s story was a bit frustrating but still sweet. A must-watch for any romance lover!

It’s better than Season 1, but that’s a low bar. The parents’ sudden 180 on accepting Pierce and Typhoon felt unearned, and Ray is basically a jobless puppy who only exists to be cute. The idol scandal plot resolves way too conveniently. I wanted more conflict, more realism. As it is, it’s just okay—nothing special.

I appreciated that the series didn’t shy away from the real emotional toll of a secret relationship. Pierce’s closet, the non-consensual photo leak of Jedi and Ray—these are serious issues rarely addressed so directly. However, Typhoon’s lack of agency really bothered me; he just waits for Pierce to change. And Ray’s obsessive behavior over Jedi felt a bit unhealthy without critique. Good intentions, but execution needed more nuance.

I loved the natural, no-makeup look on the actors—finally, real skin and imperfections! The BTS clips in the outro were a brilliant touch that made the whole production feel intimate. But the background music choices were jarring: a sad scene would get upbeat pop, and vice versa. It pulled me out of the mood. Still, the warm color grading and cozy sets made up for it.

The intro song is catchy and I even added it to my playlist. But the background scoring is a mess—half the time it doesn’t match the emotional tone of the scene. Jedi’s singing parts were decent but not memorable. For a series about music (Pierce is a songwriter, Jedi is an idol), I expected the OST to be a stronger highlight. Disappointing.
