Picking up where the beloved series left off, *Cherry Magic! The Movie* follows the deeply sweet and now openly communicative couple, Adachi and Kurosawa. Their cozy, post-magic relationship faces its first major test when Adachi receives a sudden job transfer to Nagasaki. The distance forces them to navigate long-distance relationship hurdles, but more importantly, it shines a light on the fragile nature of their bond in a society that doesn't automatically recognize their partnership. When a crisis hits, they are confronted with the painful reality of not being each other's legal next-of-kin. This sparks a heartfelt journey of coming out to their families and colleagues, culminating in a powerful declaration of love and commitment. Retaining the series' signature warmth and humor, the film deepens the emotional stakes, exploring themes of acceptance, bravery, and the everyday magic of choosing each other. It's a tender, rewarding epilogue that treats its beloved characters with the respect and growth they deserve, delivering a finale that is both realistic and profoundly satisfying.

I am absolutely sobbing. This movie gave me everything I wanted and more. The beach proposal was pure perfection, and seeing Adachi stand up to his dad with such confidence made me so proud. Their love is so real and warm—I never wanted it to end.

The movie drags in the middle with the long-distance conflict that feels overly manufactured. The side characters are almost entirely absent, and the pacing is uneven. I appreciate the attempt at deeper themes, but the charm of the series is diluted here.

As a queer viewer, this film hit me hard. The scene where Kurosawa can't get information about Adachi's accident because they aren't recognized as a couple is a powerful, understated commentary on the necessity of marriage equality. And the coming out to parents was handled with such tender realism.

I've read the manga volumes this adapts, and while I'm glad they stayed faithful to the core story, the movie loses some of the manga's interior monologues and side plots. The acting is still great, but the pacing feels rushed compared to the source material.

The cinematography in this movie is a step up from the series—the Nagasaki coastline shots are gorgeous, and the lighting in the family dinner scenes creates such an intimate, warm atmosphere. I only wish the director had used more dynamic framing during the emotional peaks.
