Step behind the glittering facade of Thailand's BL industry with *Call It What You Want*, a raw, semi-autobiographical drama that pulls no punches. Director James (Aam Anusorn Soisa-ngim) is navigating the high-pressure production of a new BL series when he finds himself falling for his lead actor, Ait (Time Dhamawat Suntanaphan). What begins as a secret on-set romance quickly becomes a tightrope walk of power dynamics, studio control, and public scrutiny. Meanwhile, side character Bas (the scene-stealing Michael Kiettisak Vatanavitsakul) quietly unravels under the weight of toxic beauty standards, exploitative contracts, and a predatory producer. This isn't a fluffy escape—it's a courageous exposé of the real human cost behind the romance we consume. Balancing sweet, stolen glances with gut-wrenching drama, the series uses its limited runtime to deliver a powerful message about autonomy, consent, and the urgent need for change. A must-watch for anyone who wants their BL with a side of brutal honesty.

I came for the industry exposé but stayed for James and Ait—their stolen glances and soft smiles totally melted my heart. Sure, the green screen is laughable, but their chemistry is so genuine that I didn't care. This is the mature, heartfelt romance I've been craving.

Michael as Bas is a revelation. His descent into depression and the quiet support from Marco broke me and put me back together. This side story is worth the entire watch—it's raw, painful, and desperately needed. I'm already praying for a season 2 to give them the happy ending they deserve.

I appreciate the intention, but the execution is sloppy. The main romance is rushed and unconvincing, and the constant green screen car scenes are distractingly bad. Bas's story is the only saving grace, but even that gets sidelined for too long. An important message doesn't automatically make a good drama.

This series tackles the power imbalance between directors and actors with uncomfortable honesty. I love that it calls out the double standards and objectification in BL culture. However, I wish they had spent more time exploring Bas's trauma rather than the so-so main romance. Still, it's a vital conversation starter.

The low budget screams at you—poor lighting, awkward framing, and that atrocious green screen ruined every car scene for me. Even the color grading feels flat. I get that they had limitations, but better blocking and practical locations would've helped. The story deserves a more polished visual treatment.
