Calculating Love is a charming, low-budget Thai BL that proves you don't need a big studio to tell a heartfelt story. The series follows Sine and Tan, two lifelong best friends and math students in their final year of university. Beneath the surface of their easygoing friendship, both harbor a secret crush on the other, too terrified of ruining their bond to confess. True to its name, the drama uses mathematical formulas and trigonometric puns (Sine + Tan = the perfect equation) as a clever metaphor for their emotional calculation—weighing the risks, overanalyzing every interaction, and trying to solve the 'problem' of love with logic. While the production values are undeniably modest (think iPhone footage and a small cast), the earnest performances and sweet, slow-burn progression capture the familiar ache of unspoken feelings. With supportive side characters, a refreshingly non-villainous female friend, and a heartwarming mother who reminds Sine that 'love isn't something you should calculate,' this miniseries offers a tender, nostalgic look at the courage it takes to follow your heart instead of your head.

I'm such a sucker for friends-to-lovers, and this one just hit the spot! The math puns were adorable, and the final confession scene on the bridge made my heart flutter. Sure, the camera work was shaky, but the raw emotion from Tan and Sine felt so real. If you want something short and sweet, give it a go.

The concept is clever, but the execution drags so much. Half the episodes could be cut because the characters just keep circling the same 'should I confess?' loop. The love triangle with Lin felt forced and only added confusion. I wanted to like it, but the repetitive script wore me down.

I stayed for the soundtrack! The background music and the theme song were gorgeous—I Shazamed at least three tracks. The music elevated the emotional moments, especially the acoustic guitar scenes. The story itself is fine, nothing groundbreaking, but the melodies made it worth watching for me.

You can tell this was shot on a smartphone with almost no budget, which normally would annoy me, but the directors made some interesting choices—the dappled light in the café, the night bridge scene, the way they framed the math equations on the board. It's amateur but earnest. Not for picky eyes.

I appreciated that the series didn't vilify the female friend Lin—she actually helped both leads reflect on their feelings. Also, Sine's mother's acceptance was a refreshing positive portrayal of parental support. However, the constant overanalyzing felt a bit like toxic avoidance rather than sweet hesitation. Still, decent messaging overall.
