Dr. Ishino Teiichiro appears to have the perfect life: a successful career at his wife's family clinic, a loving family, and the respect of his community. But beneath this façade lies a carefully guarded secret – a three-year affair with a young artist named Umezawa Tomohisa. When a woman is murdered near Teiichiro's clinic, the police investigation puts his secret lover and his alibi in the spotlight. Faced with the choice to either come out and save an innocent man from wrongful conviction, or to lie and protect his reputation, Teiichiro makes a fateful decision. His web of deceit tightens as his wife, Sachiko, grows suspicious and Umezawa pushes for honesty. In a tense, atmospheric thriller that doubles as a searing critique of societal homophobia and the crushing weight of family honor, every lie brings justice, love, and life itself to a tragic breaking point.

This is a masterclass in how to weave a queer narrative into a crime thriller without losing either thread. The cinematography is moody and oppressive, perfectly reflecting the protagonist's trapped state. The ending left me shaken for days.

The plot is tightly constructed until the final act, where some character decisions feel rushed. However, the moral dilemma – an innocent man paying for the doctor's lies – is genuinely compelling. Not a typical BL, but a solid mystery with queer themes.

As a social critique of the closet in a patriarchal society, this film is devastatingly effective. It doesn't romanticize the affair; instead it shows how internalized homophobia can turn someone into a monster. The wife's arc is especially chilling. Essential viewing for those interested in serious queer storytelling.

I went in expecting romance and got a tragedy. The leads have chemistry but it's soured by the toxic choices. The murder of Umezawa broke my heart – he deserved so much better. I understand the message, but I can't say I enjoyed watching it.

Faithful to Matsumoto Seicho's original story in tone, but the script adds some melodramatic beats that don't quite land. Still, the performances elevate the material. Worth watching for fans of the author's noir style.
