In a delightful meta twist, 'BL Drama no Shuen ni Narimashita: Crank Up Hen' takes you behind the scenes of a BL adaptation where the line between acting and reality blurs hilariously. Akafuji Yuichiro, a top actor known for his cool demeanor, is secretly a massive fan of his co-star Aoyagi Hajime—a former child star struggling to reclaim his spark. Forced to live together to build chemistry for their roles as lovers, Akafuji’s internal fanboy meltdowns clash with his outward aloofness, leading to cringe-worthy, laugh-out-loud misunderstandings. Meanwhile, Aoyagi, feeling invisible and insecure, misreads every awkward gesture. With each side’s inner monologue playing out in real time, the show masterfully balances slapstick comedy with genuine emotional beats, exploring themes of self-worth, fandom, and the courage to be vulnerable. Over three tightly packed episodes, their cohabitation evolves from a professional arrangement to something much deeper, all set against the quirky backdrop of BL drama production. It’s a sweet, self-aware romp that celebrates the genre while poking gentle fun at its tropes.

I haven't laughed this hard in ages! Akafuji counting exactly 2.7 seconds of eye contact and then fainting had me in tears. The secret fanboy trope is executed perfectly, and the inner monologues make every awkward moment even funnier. The chemistry is adorable, and the side managers are a bonus. Only complaint: I needed 5 more seconds at the end!

It's cute and watchable, but the plot relies on the laziest kind of misunderstanding that could be cleared up with one honest conversation. For a show with the runtime of a movie, character development is shockingly thin. The leads have decent chemistry, but the resolution feels rushed and unsatisfying. Still, the comedy works when it focuses on Akafuji's inner fanboy.

Visually, this drama is a treat. The color grading is dreamy—lot of soft pastels and golden hour lighting that makes every scene feel like a love letter to romance. The set design for their shared apartment is full of clever details (check the vase on the table!). The differentiation between 'acting' scenes and reality via lighting shifts is subtle but effective. A feast for the eyes.

I came for the main couple but stayed for the managers! Their deadpan banter, secret glances, and the way they conspire to push their actors together is pure gold. They have this mature, confident chemistry that the main leads sometimes lack. I need a spin-off about those two immediately. The show overall is a fluffy, fun watch even if it's too short.

The opening theme song is incredibly catchy—I've had it stuck in my head for days. It perfectly captures the playful, romantic mood of the series. The background score is adequate but forgettable; it doesn't stand out. I wish they'd released a full soundtrack. Still, for a short BL, the music does its job in setting the emotional tone.
