"Best Friends" is a poignant Filipino short film that delicately explores the fragile line between deep friendship and blossoming love. Based on a true story, it follows two lifelong friends whose bond is tested when one begins to realize his feelings go beyond platonic affection. As they navigate everyday moments—shared laughter, comfortable silences, and unspoken tensions—the film captures the quiet, universal struggle of self-discovery and the fear of losing a cherished connection. With its intimate storytelling and heartfelt performances, this 2020 gem offers a tender, slice-of-life look at the courage it takes to speak your truth, even when it risks everything you hold dear.

I absolutely adored this! The chemistry between the two leads is so natural and tender—I felt every shy glance and lingering silence. For a short film, it packs so much emotion, and the real-life inspiration makes it even more special. Definitely a hidden gem.

It's a sweet idea, but the execution feels very amateur. The pacing is too slow even for a short film, and the plot is incredibly predictable from the first minute. I appreciate the authenticity, but I wish there was more depth or a surprising twist.

Visually, the film has a cozy, intimate feel with some nice natural lighting and close-ups that capture the characters' vulnerability. The low budget is obvious, but the director makes smart choices to focus on the actors' expressions. A solid effort in Filipino indie BL.

What I appreciate most is how the film handles the transition from friendship to romance with care and respect. There's no forced drama—just two people slowly recognizing their feelings, with clear communication and no toxic tropes. A refreshingly healthy portrayal of queer self-discovery.

The soundtrack is pleasant but forgettable—a simple guitar piece that sets the mood without stealing focus. I wish the music had done more to elevate the emotional peaks of the story. Still, it works well enough for a short film of this scale.
