In this short but sweet Thai BL film, Mek is the kind of guy who has every girl swooning—yet he never seems interested in any of them. Meanwhile, Mork, a shy university student, carries a quiet crush on Mek but has no idea how to tell if the feeling could ever be mutual. Enter two determined female friends who decide to play matchmaker: they orchestrate a small house party, conveniently leaving Mek and Mork alone together. What starts as forced proximity soon leads to a spontaneous kiss—but is it just a fleeting moment, or the start of something real? With a simple setup and a focus on the tender awkwardness of early attraction, 'Before I Love You: Mek x Mork' explores the thrill and uncertainty of a first kiss, and whether a single spark can ignite genuine love. Part of a trilogy of standalone shorts, this low-budget gem captures the butterflies of gay romance without the usual university drama fanfare.

I actually really liked the sweetness of this short! Yes, the acting isn't top-tier, but the awkwardness between Mek and Mork felt real to me—they're both clearly nervous, and that made the kiss more endearing. The meddling friends added a fun twist. It's a quick watch that left me smiling.

The concept is cute but the execution is lacking. The characters barely know each other before the friends shove them together, so the sudden kiss feels forced and unearned. No real buildup or emotional depth. It's passable for a free short, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

I appreciate that the friends set up a situation without any coercion—Mek and Mork are left alone but still choose to kiss of their own free will. However, the lack of any prior conversation or clear consent-building made me a bit uncomfortable. It's a light story, but not the best model for healthy relationship beginnings.

Visually it's very basic—almost like a student film with flat lighting, limited sets, and shaky handheld shots. The editing jumps around awkwardly. That said, the warm color grading during the party scene did give a cozy vibe. For a low-budget short it's okay, but don't expect any cinematic polish.

There are almost no background tracks until the final scene, where a soft piano melody plays during the kiss. It was nice but too little, too late. The lack of music made the dialogue feel even more hollow. A stronger soundtrack could have elevated the emotional impact significantly.
