Two years after a painful breakup, Kyle (Rod Grande Corpuz) is still nursing the wounds of being left without explanation by his first love, Liam (Axl Romeo). When Liam suddenly reappears and asks for a second chance, Kyle is torn between lingering heartache and the hope that old feelings can be rekindled. What follows is a tender, week-long reunion that forces both men to confront the secrets that tore them apart. Set against a beautifully rural Philippine backdrop, this low-budget miniseries shines with genuine performances—especially from its lead couple—and a heartfelt exploration of forgiveness, identity, and the scars that love leaves behind. With a small cast, tight four-episode arc, and a respectful portrayal of a transgender character as an integral part of the friend circle, *Beautiful Scars* proves that emotional depth and authentic chemistry can thrive even on a shoestring budget. Though the script occasionally stumbles, the raw vulnerability of the main romance makes this a quietly moving watch for fans of slow-burn, second-chance love stories.

I am absolutely in love with Kyle and Liam. Their eyes say everything words can't—the longing, the hurt, the hope. Even on a tiny budget, the leads deliver such a raw, convincing second-chance romance that I cried during the last episode. Plus, the rural scenery is a bonus. A hidden gem for anyone who wants pure feels over flashy production.

I appreciate the attempt, but the script is all over the place. Characters appear out of nowhere in the last two episodes, the reason for Liam's two-year absence feels rushed, and the dialogue is often clunky. The actors do their best with what they're given, but the weak writing makes it hard to stay invested. For a 4-episode series, the plot should have been tighter. Decent for background noise.

I was pleasantly surprised by the visual quality. The soft natural lighting, the framing of outdoor scenes, and the warm color grading give the series a melancholic yet cozy vibe that perfectly matches the tone. Yes, the script has holes, but as a low-budget project, the cinematography punches way above its weight. I'd watch it again just for the shots of the sunset over the fields.

What really stood out for me was the way the series handled its trans character—not as a punchline or a sidekick, but as a genuine friend with her own voice. That alone makes it important. The main couple's dynamic also explores trust and communication without romanticizing Liam's abandonment. It's messy but honest. I deducted points for some unresolved consent conversations, but overall it's a step forward for inclusive BL.
