College student Yang Yong Ning is drifting through a lonely summer when a late-night call from his old friend, Yi Jie, changes everything. Meeting in the neon-lit streets of Taipei, the two young men embark on a wandering, intimate journey through the city's hidden corners. As they share confessions, stolen glances, and playful banter, the night becomes a catalyst for buried feelings to surface. Yong Ning's quiet longing and Yi Jie's curiosity blur the line between friendship and something more. Directed by Lin Guan Chen, this tender short film captures the heartbeat of queer adolescence—the thrill of discovery, the fear of ruining a friendship, and the courage to follow a new rhythm. With beautiful cinematography and a raw, emotional performance from its cast, 'Beats per Minute' is a snapshot of a single night that could change everything.

I'm absolutely melting after watching this. The way Yong Ning looks at Yi Jie, the stolen photos, the dance under the streetlight—it's pure poetry. Their chemistry is so natural that I forgot they were acting. That kiss felt earned and real. More of this, please!

The cinematography alone makes this worth watching. Every frame is composed like a photograph—warm neon reflections on wet pavement, soft shadows during their walk. The director uses the Taipei nightscape to mirror their internal confusion and intimacy. A visual treat even if the story is simple.

I get the charm, but 20 minutes felt too short to fully develop the emotional shift. The dialogue sometimes meanders, and the open ending left me frustrated. Still, the performances are strong and it's a solid watch if you're in the mood for something low-key.

This short film handles queer awakening with remarkable sensitivity. It doesn't force labels or drama—just two kids figuring out attraction naturally. The power balance is equal, and every touch or kiss is preceded by clear non-verbal cues. A refreshingly healthy portrayal of first love for LGBTQ+ teens.

The soundtrack is subtle but effective—the background beats literally match the 'beats per minute' theme. When the music swells during their final scene, it hit me right in the chest. I wish the score were available on streaming because I'd loop it all day.
