Be Love is a hauntingly beautiful Japanese BL miniseries that blurs the line between art and reality. The story follows a writer (Tamamori Yuta) and an editor (Miyata Toshiya) who retreat to a serene seaside villa to finish a picture book they've been working on together. As they immerse themselves in the creative process, the lines between their professional collaboration and personal feelings begin to dissolve. However, a mysterious supernatural element—hinted at by the writer's strange behavior and cryptic references to vampirism—casts a melancholic shadow over their idyllic retreat. The show uses its painterly visuals and a non-linear narrative to explore themes of love, loss, and the permanence of art. Adapted from a song, this four-episode web series is a slow-burn, emotionally charged experience that prioritizes atmosphere and introspective moments over conventional plot twists. It's a unique entry in the BL genre, offering a contemplative and slightly eerie take on romance that will linger with viewers long after the credits roll.

I appreciate what Be Love tried to do—it's a visual poem more than a linear story. The seaside setting and soft focus shots are gorgeous, and the actors bring real vulnerability. But the vampire subplot felt tacked on and underdeveloped. Still, the bittersweet ending made me cry, so I can't hate it.

Honestly, this was a chore to get through. The pacing is glacial, the 'vampire' thing makes no sense (he eats, goes to the beach, tans??), and there's zero chemistry between the leads. I had to rewind multiple times just to understand the timeline. Not recommended unless you like staring at pretty shots with no substance.

As a cinematography nerd, I was blown away. Every shot feels intentional—light, color, composition all tell the story. The meta angle of the leads playing themselves adds this fascinating self-referential layer. Yes, the plot is confusing, but I think that's the point: love and grief don't follow a straight line.

I wanted to love this, but the power dynamic between the writer and editor bothered me. The editor tries to kiss the writer who rejects him, but then they're suddenly wearing couple rings? It felt manipulative, and the consent was unclear. Plus the 'nice vs cold' tags didn't match the on-screen behavior. A beautiful failure in storytelling.

Knowing this was adapted from a song made me listen closely to the background music—and yes, the OST carries the entire emotional weight. The piano motifs are haunting. The series itself is uneven, but the soundtrack makes it worth a one-time watch if you're a music lover.
