Bangkok is a poignant two-episode Thai BL drama that dives into the bittersweet world of unrequited love and youthful heartbreak. Sophomore student Long Lee has quietly adored his close friend Ning for what feels like forever, patiently waiting for the day Ning might return his feelings. But Ning's heart belongs to Pai, a charismatic rival who seems to effortlessly capture the affection Long Lee yearns for. As love triangles tighten and friendships are tested, the series explores the raw ache of loving someone who may never love you back. Set against the vibrant backdrop of university life in Bangkok, this short but emotionally charged story captures the intensity of first love, the pain of watching someone you care for choose another, and the quiet courage it takes to hold onto hope. I cried so hard watching Long Lee's quiet desperation. His unrequited love felt so real, and Lee Long Shi's eyes said everything words couldn't. Yes, it's only two episodes, but the emotional payoff is huge. I wish Ning had chosen him, but that's what made it so painfully beautiful.

I appreciate the attempt at telling an emotional story, but two episodes just isn't enough to develop a love triangle convincingly. Ning's decision felt abrupt, and Pai was essentially a cardboard rival. The ending left me unsatisfied and wondering why they bothered to build up Long Lee's longing at all.

For a low-budget short series, the visual quality was surprisingly decent. There are some nice soft-focus shots of Bangkok streets and university halls that set a melancholic mood. But the lighting in indoor scenes was uneven, and the editing felt choppy in transitions. Aesthetically, it's a mixed bag.

I found the portrayal of one-sided love realistic but also troubling in how it romanticizes pining without clear boundaries. Long Lee's friend group pressures Ning to 'give him a chance,' which borders on coercive. The drama does show Ning's agency in choosing Pai, but the narrative framing seems to favor the 'nice guy' narrative. Worth discussing, but not without flaws.

The background music in Bangkok is surprisingly lovely – a soft piano theme that perfectly captures Long Lee's lonely heart. There's a short instrumental that plays during the confession scene that still gives me chills. I wish the series had an official OST release because I would listen to it on repeat.
