In this heartfelt Filipino indie drama, 23-year-old Alex is a queer creative navigating the chaos of multiple jobs and a secret that weighs heavily on her heart. She's out to her family and friends—except for her best friend Jess, the girl she's been silently in love with for years. When Jess gets a girlfriend and starts dating someone new, Alex's carefully guarded emotions begin to unravel. Torn between protecting their friendship and finally confessing her feelings, Alex must confront the painful truth that coming out isn't just about revealing her sexuality—it's also about risking the most precious relationship in her life. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Manila, *Baka Bukas* (translated as 'Maybe Tomorrow') is an achingly authentic exploration of unrequited love, internalized fear, and the messy, beautiful process of claiming your own truth. With raw performances and a script that balances heartache with moments of tender humor, this film captures the queer Filipino experience with rare sincerity.

I'm a sucker for best-friend-to-lovers stories and this one had me in a chokehold. Alex and Jess have this incredible warmth that made me root for them even when things got messy. The longing in Alex's eyes? Absolutely devastating in the best way. If you love slow-burn romance that actually hurts, this is for you.

I get what it's trying to do, but Alex's decisions infuriated me. Keeping her sexuality from Jess while dating other people? And that random drunk hookup with a guy felt thrown in for drama. The pacing dragged in the middle, and the ending left me wanting more closure—not in a good way. It's fine, but not great.

As a queer Filipino, I appreciated how honestly this film deals with the fear of rejection and the pressure to manage others' feelings before your own. Alex's journey isn't neat, and that's realistic. But I wish the film had explored Jess's questioning arc with the same depth—her silence felt like a missed opportunity for dialogue about identity.

The cinematography is understated but gorgeous—lots of soft natural light and intimate framing that makes you feel like you're eavesdropping on Alex's life. The color palette shifts subtly as her emotions darken. It's not flashy, but every shot feels purposeful. A visual treat for those who appreciate indie realism.

The soundtrack has a lo-fi, acoustic vibe that fits the indie mood perfectly—there's this one guitar piece that plays during the most emotional scenes and it still gives me chills. That said, some scenes felt musically sparse, which made the silences a little too heavy. Still, the original songs are worth a listen.
