At first glance, *Bad to Bed* appears to be a whimsical fantasy about the Sleep God falling for a handsome shepherd and granting him the ability to sleep with his eyes open. But this Taiwanese drama is anything but a simple fairy tale. What unfolds is a deeply psychological and emotionally raw journey into the mind of Raccoon, a charismatic young man grappling with insomnia and an unfathomable trauma. The non-linear, stream-of-consciousness narrative blurs the lines between reality and delusion, using the Sleep God myth as a haunting metaphor for his mental state. Through stunning visual storytelling and layered performances, the series slowly pieces together Raccoon's fragmented past, revealing the painful truths behind his ‘gift.’ At its core, *Bad to Bed* is a poignant exploration of loss, healing, and the fragile hope found in a new connection—a love that sees beyond the surface and dares to understand the chaos within.

I appreciate that this series tackles mental health with a raw and unflinching lens. The depiction of Raccoon's struggles felt authentic, but the disjointed narrative made it hard to follow. The conversation about medication in episode 10 was well-intentioned but came across as suggesting that stopping medication is the goal, which is a problematic message. Still, it's a brave attempt to show the messy reality of trauma.

The use of color, lighting, and angles in Bad to Bed is nothing short of masterful. Each frame is composed to reflect Raccoon's internal state, from the warm, dream-like tones of his fantasies to the cold, stark reality of his fears. It's a visual feast that rewards close attention. The non-linear editing might confuse some, but for me, it added to the immersive, stream-of-consciousness experience.

I wanted to like this, but the excessive characters and confusing timeline jumps made it feel like a puzzle without all the pieces. For a 10-episode short series, it tries to do too much. The core emotional story is there, but it's buried under unnecessary subplots. A more streamlined edit would have made it a stronger, clearer narrative.

The chemistry between Raccoon and his love interest is so tender and real. Their quiet moments of intimacy, the way they communicate without words - it's the heart of this series. I cried multiple times watching them navigate trauma and find comfort in each other. This is not a typical fluffy BL, but the emotional payoff is immense.

The music in Bad to Bed is hauntingly beautiful and perfectly complements the surreal atmosphere. At first, I found the soundtrack jarring, but as the story unfolded, it became clear how intentional every note was. The OST elevates the emotional beats and makes the confusing parts feel like a dream. I've been listening to it on repeat.
