From the moment they were born, Pran and Pat were destined to be enemies. Caught in the crossfire of a bitter, decades-long feud between their families, the two boys were raised to compete, outshine, and despise each other. But fate—and a shared love for music—had other plans. As children, they became secret friends, sharing stolen moments of harmony. When their friendship was discovered, Pran was abruptly sent away, and the fragile connection was shattered.

Years later, the universe thrusts them back together. Pran, a meticulous and gifted architecture student, and Pat, a charismatic and impulsive engineering major, find themselves not only at the same university but living in dorm rooms directly across the hall from each other. The old rivalry between their faculties reignites, forcing them to navigate a battlefield of faculty wars, meddling friends, and the ever-watchful eyes of their disapproving parents.

But the spark they thought they had extinguished is still alive. As they are thrown together by circumstance—fighting side-by-side, sharing late-night meals, and reluctantly teaming up—old feelings resurface. Pat, the golden retriever with a heart of gold, begins to realize that his relentless teasing and protective instincts point to something deeper than rivalry. Pran, who has secretly carried a torch for years, struggles to keep his walls up.

What makes Bad Buddy truly special is not the star-crossed lovers premise, but how it fearlessly subverts every tired trope of the genre. There are no toxic power dynamics, no 'I'm not gay, I just like you' cop-outs, and no forced heteronormative labels. Instead, we get a healthy, communicative, and deeply romantic relationship built on mutual respect and genuine affection. The show celebrates queer love without the baggage of internalized homophobia, and it even calls out the industry's own stereotypes with a knowing wink. Expect laughter, sighs, and tears as these two stubborn souls learn that the greatest rebellion against their families' hatred is simply to love each other—openly, proudly, and without reservation.

I have never been so emotionally ruined and rebuilt by a show. Pat and Pran are everything – their bickering, their stolen glances, the way they just GET each other. Ohm and Nanon don't even look like they're acting; they're simply in love. The rooftop scene had me sobbing into my pillow, and the ending had me screaming. This is the gold standard of BL romance.

Let's be honest – the plot is a recycled Romeo-and-Juliet university rivalry that we've seen a dozen times. The first few episodes drag with repetitive faculty fights, and the parents' feud is never fully justified. The show only really shines during episodes 5-8 when the leads take center stage. After that, the pacing stumbles again, and the product placement is embarrassingly overt. Good acting, decent romance, but far from perfect storytelling.

Visually, this series is a feast. The color grading gives every scene a warm, nostalgic glow – the sunset rooftop, the neon-lit night markets, the intimate dorm room shadows. Director P'Aof frames each shot like a painting, using reflections and negative space to heighten emotional tension. Even the fight sequences are choreographed with a rhythmic beauty. My favorite visual motif: the recurring use of music notes as a bridge between two worlds. Absolutely gorgeous.

I didn't just watch Bad Buddy – I listened to it on repeat for months. The OST is phenomenal. Nanon's 'Just Friends?' is an instant classic that perfectly captures the 'more than friends' anxiety. The instrumental score during the rooftop kiss is so hauntingly beautiful I learned to play it on piano. Every song placement feels intentional, from the xylophone duet to the final acoustic strumming. Music isn't just background here; it's the soul of Pat and Pran's story.

Finally, a BL that treats its characters like real people instead of fetish objects. Bad Buddy actively deconstructs the 'wife/husband' labels, shows a character explicitly saying 'I don't care about gender,' and calls out the toxicity of outing someone. Pat's unwavering support and Pran's boundaries are refreshing. My only issue is the friend Wai's actions – while realistic, they needed more on-screen accountability. Still, this is a massive step forward for queer representation in Thai dramas.

I came for PatPran, but I stayed for Ink and Pa. Their quiet, supportive GL side story was a delightful surprise. The way Ink gently helps Pa come into her own, and how they navigate a relationship without the main couple's drama – it's the soft, effortless love I crave. They deserved more screen time! Their chemistry is so natural I'd watch an entire spin-off just of them going on dates. Thank you, P'Aof, for including them.

Having read the novel 'Behind the Scenes' first, I was nervous about the adaptation. The drama makes some smart changes – it gives Pat a more upfront personality and removes the more problematic novel elements like the dub-con moments. I do miss the novel's deeper exploration of the parents' backstory and some side character arcs, but the core relationship is actually improved on screen. OhmNanon's raw emotion makes up for any missing detail.
