In the nostalgic streets of Taipei, four childhood friends navigate the tangled web of adulthood, love, and unspoken desires. *Back to My First Love* is a tender, three-episode miniseries that explores the delicate evolution of feelings among a tight-knit group, where years of friendship blur the lines into something deeper. When one of them returns home after a long absence, old bonds are rekindled, and buried emotions surface, forcing everyone to confront who they have become—and who they've always loved. With heartfelt performances from Joey Yu, Max Liu, and Singo Yu, this Taiwanese BL gem captures the aching sweetness of first love and the courage it takes to risk a lifelong friendship. Short but emotionally packed, it's a quiet, reflective journey perfect for fans of slice-of-life romance.

I’m a sucker for childhood friends to lovers, and this little Taiwanese gem hit all the right notes for me. The quiet longing, the shared memories, the way they looked at each other after years apart—it gave me actual butterflies. Yes, it’s short, but sometimes a short story told well is better than a long one dragged out. I wish it had more episodes, but I’ll take what I can get.

I wanted to like it more because the cast is charming, but the whole thing felt rushed and underdeveloped. Three episodes just aren’t enough to build a believable emotional arc, especially when you have four characters to juggle. The ending is sweet, but I kept waiting for more depth that never came. It’s a decent watch if you have 90 minutes to kill, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking.

The cinematography surprised me—soft lighting, warm color grading, and a real sense of place. Every frame felt like a photograph from a summer diary. The pacing is slow, almost meditative, which I personally enjoyed. It’s not for everyone, but if you appreciate visual storytelling as much as plot, this is a treat. The music choices were also really fitting.

I appreciate that the show presents gay love as natural and unremarkable within the friend group—no coming-out drama, no homophobia. That’s refreshing. However, the lack of clear consent dialogue (one kiss felt a bit sudden) and the underdeveloped side characters left me wanting more nuance. Good intentions, but the execution could have been stronger.

The OST has this dreamy indie-pop vibe that really elevated the emotional scenes for me. I actually searched for the songs after finishing. But the show itself is too short for the music to fully sink in. I felt like the score was carrying more weight than the script. Still, if you’re a music lover, the soundtrack alone might be worth the watch.
