Set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, 'At the Moment' is an ambitious Taiwanese anthology that captures love in all its messy, beautiful, and unexpected forms. Across 10 standalone episodes, each running about 50 minutes, the series introduces us to a kaleidoscope of couples and individuals navigating connection during a time of isolation. From a fake reality show romance and a deaf man’s tender bond with a masseuse to a surreal alien encounter and a heart-wrenching gay story (Episode 5) that has BL fans buzzing, every episode offers a fresh perspective. There’s also a touching GL reunion (Episode 9) and a role-reversal domestic drama that challenges gender norms. While the pandemic serves as a quiet backdrop, the real focus is on the raw, fleeting moments of passion, heartache, and second chances. With a star-studded cast featuring familiar faces from Taiwanese cinema, beautifully directed interludes, and a clever narrative that connects characters through subtle cameos, this series delivers emotional depth without overstaying its welcome. It’s a celebration of love’s diversity—romantic, familial, and self-love—all wrapped in a production that feels both intimate and grand.

I am absolutely obsessed with Episode 5! The way Derek Chang and Johnny Yang portray that painful, beautiful tension of a gay man falling for someone who might not feel the same... I cried so hard. The chemistry is electric, and the ending, while bittersweet, felt so real. This is the kind of BL content I crave—authentic, emotional, and totally swoon-worthy.

I admire the ambition, but the anthology format means some episodes feel rushed and underdeveloped. Episode 4's sci-fi twist was interesting but didn't have enough time to land emotionally. The BL episode (5) had a great premise but the sudden change of feelings felt a bit convenient. For a quick watch it's fine, but don't expect deep, cohesive storytelling.

Visually, this series is a feast. Each episode has its own distinct color palette—from the warm, intimate tones of the BL episode to the cool, surreal wash of Episode 4. The camera work during intimate scenes is incredibly tender, and the use of masks and reflections subtly reinforces the pandemic theme. A masterclass in directing an anthology.

I appreciate how 'At the Moment' tackles complex relationship dynamics without judgment. Episode 8's role-reversal story is a refreshing take on toxic masculinity, and Episode 5 honestly portrays the pain of unrequited queer love. The series doesn't shy away from messy emotions—infidelity, loneliness, and societal pressure are all explored with empathy. A solid step forward for inclusive storytelling.

The music in this series perfectly complements the fleeting, emotional moments. The opening theme sets a wistful tone, and the tracks that bloom during key scenes—especially the piano piece in Episode 5 and the synth wave in Episode 4—are hauntingly beautiful. I've been replaying the OST on repeat. A little uneven in spots, but the sound design is top-tier.
