Set one year after the events of the original film, *Approach to Love 2* finds Wu Shuang emotionally shattered after his long-distance relationship with Chen Wei collapses. Now a university student, he navigates a fog of heartbreak, physical exhaustion, and loneliness. In his vulnerability, he becomes entangled with Wang, a charismatic but conflicted physical education teacher who is already in a committed relationship with a woman. Their connection deepens despite the moral ambiguity, forcing both men to confront desire, obligation, and the painful gap between what they want and what society expects. Through raw, truthful moments—including a rare on-screen discussion about STDs and sexual health—the film explores themes of fidelity, self-worth, and the cost of pursuing happiness in a world that denies queer love a happy ending. With its gritty realism and refusal to romanticize infidelity, *Approach to Love 2* is a poignant, honest portrayal of love that is messy, complicated, and ultimately heartbreaking.

I can't believe how raw this film is. It doesn't give you the fluffy happy ending everyone craves, but it feels so real. The way Wu Shuang struggles with his feelings for Wang while knowing Wang isn't free—it's painful but necessary storytelling. The STD conversation scene was a shock but so important. Not for everyone, but I loved it.

The pacing felt off and several plot threads (like the sudden disappearance of Wu's best friend) are never explained. The writing tries to be deep but ends up muddled. I appreciate the attempt to tackle infidelity realistically, but the execution left me confused about the characters' motivations. Not terrible, but far from polished.

As a social analyst, I appreciate how this film addresses power dynamics and consent without romanticizing the affair. Wang is honest from the start, which is more than most BLs offer. The ending felt punishing, but it reflects real societal consequences. A valuable conversation starter, even if it's hard to watch.

Cinematography is decent for a low-budget 2016 film—some nice natural lighting in the campus scenes. The color palette leans warm but occasionally feels flat. Could have used more stylish framing, but given the era and restrictions, it's acceptable. The real draw is the story, not the visuals.

The soundtrack did nothing for me. Barely memorable background music that doesn't elevate the emotional moments. I was hoping for a theme song that would stick with me, but it's generic. The acting is what carries the film, not the audio. Skip if you're a music-first viewer.
