In the underbelly of Japan's yakuza world, a deeply compassionate young boss, Kataoka Kinji, is forced into hiding after a power struggle. His only companion is Odajima Ren, a stoic and brooding subordinate carrying a deadly secret mission: to kill Kataoka. As they embark on a tense road trip across the coast, the journey becomes a fragile, intimate dance of deception and attraction. With every shared silence and fleeting touch, the lines between duty and desire blur, forcing both men to confront their traumatic pasts—Odajima’s brutal childhood and Kataoka’s weary resignation—and ask whether love can truly bloom in the shadow of betrayal. This isn’t a fluffy romance but a raw, poetic meditation on survival, guilt, and the terrifying intimacy of being fully seen by the one destined to destroy you.

I am completely wrecked in the best way. The way Odajima's guarded eyes slowly soften toward Kataoka, and those kisses—actual passionate kisses!—had me rewinding multiple times. This is the kind of heartbreaking, beautiful romance that stays with you for weeks. Definitely my JBL of the year.

As someone who usually critiques power dynamics in BL, I found the first car scene deeply uncomfortable and worth discussing. However, the show refuses to glamorize it—instead it uses moral ambiguity to explore how trauma shapes consent. The later encounters feel more earned, and the character work on Odajima is stellar. Not for everyone, but thoughtfully done.

Every single shot is a painting. The color grading—sepia for the past, cold blues for the present—tells the story as much as the dialogue does. I loved the repeated motif of water (the sea, the rain) and how it mirrors Odajima's internal drowning. The director has an incredible eye for framing loneliness.

The emotional beats work because of the actors, but the plotting is a mess. With only six episodes, the yakuza political subplot feels rushed and the final resolution relies on too much coincidence. Odajima's turnaround from hatred to love needed more screen time to breathe. It's good but not great, and the wasted potential frustrates me.

The OST 'Tsurezure' is the heartbeat of this series. That melancholic guitar riff that plays during the long silences between Kataoka and Odajima? Absolute perfection. I've had it on repeat for days. The background score never overwhelms but perfectly underlines every moment of tension and tenderness. A rare audio-visual treat.
