Set against the backdrop of a Beijing high school, *Addicted* (also known as *Addicted Heroin*) follows Bai Luo Yin, a proud and studious teenager from a struggling single-parent family, and Gu Hai, the brash, wealthy son of a military official. Their worlds collide when they become desk mates—and immediate antagonists. Gu Hai’s relentless, obsessive pursuit of Bai Luo Yin begins as territorial bullying but soon spirals into an intense, all-consuming fixation that blurs the lines between domination and devotion. What makes *Addicted* unforgettable is its raw, visceral emotional core: the push-pull between two stubborn young men who are each other’s only refuge and worst torment. As Bai Luo Yin’s family unravels and Gu Hai’s possessive love deepens, the series delivers a gripping, slow-burn romance that feels dangerously real. Filmed with a low budget but immense heart, the drama captures stolen glances, quiet vulnerabilities, and explosive confrontations—all set to a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. Though cut short by Chinese censorship before its intended finale, the 15 episodes that exist have become a cult phenomenon, praised for the magnetic chemistry of its rookie leads. Be warned: this is not a fluffy romance. *Addicted* dives headfirst into dark themes of consent, obsession, and class conflict, making it a divisive but essential watch for BL fans who want their emotions raw and uncompromised.

I came for the hype, and honestly, I'm still obsessed months later. Timmy and Johnny have this insane magnetic pull—every scene they share is electric. Sure, Gu Hai is a walking red flag, but the way he eventually softens around Bai Luo Yin? My heart couldn't take it. The dad storyline also made me ugly cry. If you can look past the problematic parts (and I know that's a big 'if'), this is one of the most passionate love stories I've ever seen. A masterpiece cut short.

I get why people love it, but the pacing is a mess—episodes jump forward without explanation, probably due to censorship cuts. The non-con scenes are uncomfortable and poorly handled; the show can't decide if it's a romance or a warning. That said, the acting is surprisingly solid for rookies, and the father-son dynamic is genuinely touching. It's a frustrating watch because you see the masterpiece it could have been if given proper editing and a full season.

As someone who devoured the original novel, I'm impressed with how much they captured despite censorship. The casting is spot-on—Gu Hai's intensity and Luo Yin's stubbornness are exactly as I imagined. Obviously, the novel has way more depth and explicit content (Book 2 is incredible), but the drama condenses the emotional beats well. The only complaint is they cut some key character development for the side couple, which hurts the overall story. Still, it's a faithful adaptation that makes me wish for a proper full season every day.

I cannot believe this is romanticized. Gu Hai's behavior—stalking, kidnapping, forcing himself on Bai Luo Yin—is textbook coercive control. Every 'romantic' scene made my skin crawl. This isn't love, it's Stockholm syndrome. The show tries to frame obsession as passion, and that's dangerous. The cast does their best, but the script glorifies assault. If a male lead did this to a female character, it would be condemned. Please think twice before watching, and if you do, recognize that this is not a healthy relationship.

The music alone is worth the watch! 'Walk Slowly' by Xu Wei Zhou is now in my daily playlist, but the entire OST—especially the instrumental piano pieces—perfectly captures the angst and longing. There's a scene where a *Brokeback Mountain* homage plays during a quiet moment, and I literally gasped. The editing syncs the soundtrack with emotional beats flawlessly. Even if you hate the plot, the audio experience is a masterclass in how music can elevate a low-budget production.

Visually, this drama punches way above its weight. The use of natural light in the classroom scenes, the cold blue tones of winter, and the warm amber of Gu Hai's apartment create a gorgeous contrast that mirrors their relationship. There's a shot of Bai Luo Yin walking in the rain that could be a movie poster. Yes, some camera angles are awkward, but the directors knew how to frame intimacy—the way they shoot Gu Hai's hand lingering on Luo Yin's shoulder says more than any censored kiss could.

I'm here for the main couple, but honestly? I was more invested in You Qi and Yang Meng. Their dynamic—the quiet, loyal best friend and the playful troublemaker—had so much potential! The drama only gives us crumbs, but even those tiny moments (Yang Meng's protective glances, You Qi's soft smiles) made me squeal. Their story is more wholesome and less toxic than the mains. If only we had gotten the rumored second season exploring them... I'll keep dreaming.
