In this raw and intimate Japanese short film, Yohei is hiding a secret from his boyfriend Kazuki—a secret that is slowly eating away at him. As Kazuki senses the growing distance, he gently tries to bridge the gap, only to discover that Yohei's distress comes from a deeply personal battle with hair loss. Instead of offering conventional comfort, Kazuki chooses an absurd yet profoundly tender gesture: while Yohei bathes, he begins to lick his wet hair, silently declaring that no illness or change can diminish his love. Shot in a deliberately home-video style, *Access* strips away cinematic polish to deliver a painfully honest portrait of vulnerability and unconditional acceptance. This is not a story about grand romantic gestures—it is about the weird, uncomfortable, and deeply human ways we express devotion when words fail. A polarizing but unforgettable meditation on love in the face of imperfection.

I get that it's supposed to be avant-garde, but the home-video quality is inexcusable for a released film. The 'secret' is painfully obvious from the first minute, and the resolution—licking his hair in the bath—felt like a shock-value gimmick. There's a kernel of an interesting idea here, but it's buried under amateur execution.

I'm a sucker for unconditional love stories, and this one hit me hard. Yes, it's weird and uncomfortable, but that's exactly how real love sometimes looks. The way Kazuki just accepts Yohei's hair loss without a word—and shows love in that bizarre, licking gesture—broke my heart in the best way. It's not for everyone, but for me it's a hidden gem.

The lighting is flat, the camera shakes like a teenager's first vlog, and there's zero consideration for composition. If this were a student project, I'd be lenient, but as a finished film it's visually painful. That said, the raw closeness of the bath scene does capture an unfiltered intimacy that polished films often miss. A mixed bag for visuals.

I appreciate the attempt to show love beyond physical perfection, but the power dynamics here are murky. The secret-keeping and the lack of verbal consent before that intimate act made me uneasy. Still, the film does open a conversation about how we care for partners with health issues, and that's valuable. Not a comfortable watch, but a provocative one.

I've seen hundreds of BL, and this one stays with me because it's so unlike anything else. It's clumsy and weird, but I felt the love between these two more than in many polished series. The hair-licking scene is either genius or madness—I'm leaning towards genius. If you can handle the amateur look, give it a chance.
