In a prestigious Seoul music academy, piano prodigy Dong Uk has always been the star—until Seong Hun arrives, a talent so immense it leaves Dong Uk both envious and mesmerized. What begins as a bitter rivalry over who can master the most complex sonata slowly deepens into an achingly tender romance. As Dong Uk struggles with his own insecurity and the pressure of familial expectations, he finds himself drawn to Seong Hun’s gentle, unassuming nature. But their connection is tested by a possessive professor with a dark past, unresolved trauma from Dong Uk’s childhood, and the claustrophobic intensity of a school where every note is judged. Told in short, intimate episodes, *Accent* is a vertical-series drama that strips away the fluff to focus on raw emotion, breathtaking piano performances, and the fragile dance between admiration and love. With a hauntingly beautiful score and performances that ache with longing, this is a story not just about music, but about finding your own voice in someone else’s melody.

I'm a sucker for piano-based BL and this delivered. The rivalry-to-romance was messy but the chemistry between Dong Uk and Seong Hun is electric. Those short episodes kept me craving more. The kiss in episode 27 made my heart stop!

The music was beautiful, but the storytelling suffered from the vertical format. The love triangle felt unnecessary, and the professor's redemption arc was poorly executed. I wanted more depth on the main couple's development instead of trauma dump.

I'm uneasy with the professor-student dynamics and the non-consensual touching that's glossed over. The show tries to frame it as complexity, but it romanticizes unhealthy power imbalances. The piano scenes were lovely, but the ethical issues are hard to ignore.

The OST is the real star here. The piano pieces – especially the Chopin-inspired original composition – are haunting. I've already rewatched the final performance three times. If only the script had the same polish as the music.

For a vertical series, the cinematography is surprisingly good. The close-ups of hands on the keys, the lighting in the practice rooms – it's visually captivating. But the abrupt cuts between episodes broke the mood. Overall a solid effort from Shortime.
