When broke university student Lu Xiao answers a bizarre job listing to become a professional fake boyfriend, he never expects the gig to lead him to a secluded seaside house—or into the arms of Zai Rong, a wealthy heir desperate to escape an arranged marriage. What begins as a transactional arrangement quickly blurs the line between performance and reality, as the two men discover an undeniable chemistry in stolen glances, quiet conversations, and shared meals. But the arrival of Zai Rong's childhood friend and would-be fiancée threatens to tear their fragile connection apart. With only five bite-sized episodes, *A Sketchy Job!* delivers an intimate, slow-burn romance that makes every second count. This is a story about the courage to love authentically, even when faced with family expectations and societal pressures. Beautifully acted by Lawrence Zhang and Su Yu Hang, this mini-series proves that sometimes the deepest feelings grow from the most unconventional beginnings.

I'm completely obsessed! The chemistry between Lawrence and Su is off the charts—every scene they're in together feels electric. Yes, the female villain was annoying, but I didn't care because the main couple had my whole heart. The seaside setting, the quiet hugs, the way they look at each other... pure BL magic. I just wish it was 20 episodes long!

Started strong with a charming setup and fantastic acting, but the second half derailed into cliché melodrama. The ex-fiancée plot felt forced and wasted precious screen time. For such a short series, every minute should advance the relationship, not throw in an obstacle that's resolved too easily. Still, the leads are talented—just a disappointing script.

Despite the obvious low budget (hello, iPhone camera vibes), the cinematography managed to create an intimate, dreamy atmosphere. The soft lighting, the framing of the leads against the ocean wall, and the tight close-ups made every moment feel personal. I just wish they'd invested in a better lens—some shots were distractingly grainy. But the aesthetic of the house and pier? Chef's kiss.

I struggled with the power dynamics here. Lu Xiao is paid to be a boyfriend, and even though feelings develop, the transactional start never sits well with me. The show rushes past any ethical exploration of ‘fake dating for hire’ and jumps straight to romance. Also, the way Zai Rong‘s ex-fiancée is villainized without nuance feels dated. I needed more conversation about consent and choice. The acting is good, but the script needed more depth.

I have to shout out the background music! For a low-budget indie YouTube series, the OST was surprisingly effective. The soft piano themes during their tender moments and the slightly erratic music in the finale actually added emotional weight. It's not a grand score, but it fits the intimate seaside vibe perfectly. Paired with the actors' expressions, it made me tear up. Soundtrack carries a lot of the emotion here!
