Set in 2013 Taipei, *A Cohabitation* is a tender and devastating short film that follows Jim, a Taiwanese man, and Mike, his Malaysian boyfriend, as they finally move in together. Their joy is short-lived when Mike is diagnosed with HIV. At the time, Taiwanese law forced the deportation of HIV-positive foreigners, threatening to tear the couple apart. With only two actors and a focused narrative, the film strips away melodrama to reveal the raw, intimate reality of their love and fear. Jim’s panic and Mike’s quiet strength create a powerful dynamic, while the film’s ending offers a poignant moment of hope grounded in real-life legal change. Based on true events, this is a quiet but unforgettable testament to resilience and devotion.

This short film is a masterpiece. The way Jim and Mike support each other through such a scary time made me cry. Their love felt so real, and the ending gave me so much hope. I've already rewatched it three times.

A beautifully acted film that highlights an awful piece of history. I appreciate how it doesn't shy away from the legal and emotional reality of HIV deportation. The law changed in 2015, and this film helps us remember why that fight mattered.

The cinematography is stunning for such a low-budget short. Natural lighting, intimate close-ups, and a muted color palette that mirrors the emotional weight. Every frame feels intentional and raw. A visual treat.

It's a good short film with a heartfelt message, but the pacing feels a bit rushed. I wanted more development of their relationship before the crisis. Still, the performances are strong enough to carry the story.

The music is minimal but perfectly placed. A simple piano score that swells at just the right moments, never overpowers the dialogue. It amplified the emotion without being melodramatic. Lovely sound design overall.
