3some is a heartfelt Filipino short film that explores the delicate, tangled web of love and friendship among three inseparable best friends. Epey, a lively tomboy with an infectious laugh; Kenzo, a muscular, discreet heartthrob; and Brandon, a shy, charming straight guy—they’ve been through everything together. But when unspoken feelings begin to surface, their perfect trio is pushed to the brink. What happens when friendship slowly morphs into something deeper, and each must confront the possibility that their love might not be returned? This intimate, bittersweet romance captures the ache of wanting more, the fear of losing what you already have, and the courage it takes to be true to your heart. With no easy answers, 3some is a tender snapshot of queer desire and the messy beauty of loving your best friend.

I can't stop thinking about this little gem. The way they capture that painful moment when you realize you're in love with your best friend—it hit me right in the chest. The acting feels so natural, especially Epey's subtle heartbreak. Perfect for a quick cry.

Visually, this short film punches above its weight. The soft lighting in the rooftop scenes and the intimate framing of the trio’s conversations give it a quiet, melancholic beauty. The plot is simple—almost too simple—but the cinematography elevates it.

I appreciate the attempt to tackle a love triangle among friends, but at 23 minutes, it feels rushed. Brandon’s ‘straight’ label is never challenged, and the ending leaves too much unresolved. Still, the performances are genuine, and it’s a decent time capsule of early Filipino BL.

As a sociologist and queer viewer, I found this refreshingly grounded. It doesn’t glamorize the love triangle—it shows the messy boundaries of friendship and desire. The tomboy character is portrayed without stereotype, and the film respects everyone’s agency. Wish it were longer.

The sparse piano score does wonders for the atmosphere. Every note amplifies the longing in those silent glances. I actually rewound the final scene just to hear the music again. Would love an official soundtrack release.
