What if turning 30 and still being a virgin granted you a superpower? That's the delightfully absurd premise of *Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!* — a series that quickly reveals itself to be one of the most tender, hilarious, and emotionally resonant Boys' Love dramas to come out of Japan. We meet Adachi Kiyoshi, a quiet, self-effacing salaryman who has spent his life blending into the background at his Tokyo office. On his 30th birthday, after resigning himself to a lifetime of mediocrity, he suddenly discovers he can hear the unfiltered thoughts of anyone he touches. This power, he learns, is the legendary 'magic' that befalls virgins turning 30. Thrown into a panic, Adachi accidentally brushes against the office ikemen — the effortlessly perfect and universally adored sales ace Kurosawa Yuichi. To Adachi's utter shock, Kurosawa's mind is a whirlwind of adoration: he's been harboring a deep, respectful, and utterly devoted crush on Adachi for two years. What unfolds is a gentle, slow-burn office romance that flips the classic BL script. Instead of aggressive confessions or toxic tropes, we watch Adachi, through his accidental mind-reading, slowly discover not only Kurosawa's incredible heart — his insecurities hidden behind that perfect smile, his unwavering patience, and his fantasy scenarios involving Adachi that are as endearing as they are funny — but also his own value. The 'magic' becomes a catalyst for Adachi to see himself through the eyes of someone who loves him, giving him the courage to step out of his shell. With a stellar supporting cast including a lovable fellow magical virgin (Tsuge) and his charismatic delivery-man love interest, a wonderfully supportive female friend who defies the usual BL trope, and a series of laugh-out-loud moments that never undercut the genuine emotion, *Cherry Magic* is a celebration of self-love, consent, and the extraordinary discovery that even the most ordinary person can be someone's entire world. It’s a masterclass in showing, not telling, that love, in all its forms, is simply magic.

I am absolutely obsessed with this show. Kurosawa is the most perfect love interest ever written – he respects Adachi so deeply, even when his thoughts are going wild. The way he looks at him? I died. Every episode felt like a warm hug. If you want a BL that makes you believe in true love without any drama or toxicity, this is it. I've rewatched it four times already and it never gets old.

I came for the main couple but stayed for Tsuge and Minato! Tsuge's chaotic energy and Minato's sweet determination completely stole my heart. Their story is more fast-paced and they actually get a kiss! I wish they had more screen time, but what we got was comedic gold. Also, Udon-chan the cat is the true star. The main couple is lovely too, but the side couple gave me all the feels.

I really wanted to love this more, but the pacing in the last few episodes felt rushed and the resolution to the conflict in episode 11 was too convenient. Also, the lack of a single kiss between the main couple after all that build-up felt like a cop-out. I understand Japanese broadcasting restrictions, but it left me a bit unsatisfied. That said, the acting is excellent and the first 8 episodes are near-perfect. Just wish the finale had more bite.

The visual storytelling in Cherry Magic is phenomenal. The color grading shifts between Adachi's muted world and Kurosawa's bright, warm perspective – pure genius. The use of reflections in windows and the symbolic 'pen scene' had me paused and analyzing. Cinematography-wise, this is a cut above most BL. Every frame is composed with care, and the lighting during the confession scene in the rain is just breathtaking.

As a huge fan of the original manga, I was nervous about the live-action. But they absolutely nailed the essence of the story. Some changes were made – like expanding Fujisaki's character and adding more Kurosawa POV – which actually improved the narrative. The only thing I missed was some of the manga's more comedic exaggerated expressions. But the actors captured the characters' souls so perfectly that I forgive it. A rare adaptation that enhances the source material.

The soundtrack alone deserves a 10. The opening 'Ubugoe' by Omoinotake perfectly captures Adachi's awakening feelings, and the ending 'Good Love Your Love' by Deep Squad is Kurosawa's heartfelt love letter set to music. Every piano piece during the emotional scenes wrecked me. I listen to the OST on repeat. The music is not just background; it's an integral part of the storytelling. Beautiful.

Cherry Magic is a masterclass in healthy relationship portrayal. Kurosawa never pushes Adachi; he lets him set every boundary and even apologizes for a forced forehead kiss. The story tackles self-worth and the fear of intimacy in a way that feels genuine and not preachy. I also love that Fujisaki is clearly coded as asexual, and her character is respected, not fixed. This is what BL should aspire to be – romantic without being predatory.

Okay, I know this is a romance drama, but where's the action? I kept waiting for some office fight, a car chase, or at least a dramatic punch. Nope. Just two guys having sweet conversations and a lot of blushing. That said, the acting is so good I can't even be mad. Machida Keita's puppy-dog eyes are more lethal than any weapon. If you want a break from explosions and want a heart-melting story, this works. But for adrenaline? Look elsewhere.
