Three university friends—a charismatic Taiwanese heartthrob, a brooding Korean intellectual, and a free-spirited Singaporean dreamer—set off on an impulsive road trip across Southeast Asia. What begins as a carefree adventure soon unravels hidden feelings and unspoken desires, as the trio navigates scenic coastal highways, late-night confessions, and the tangled threads of a love triangle that threatens to redraw the boundaries of their friendship. Against the backdrop of sun-drenched beaches and neon-lit cities, each character must confront what they truly want—and what they’re willing to risk. 3 Peas in a Pod is a tender, bittersweet exploration of queer identity, cultural difference, and the aching beauty of first love. With naturalistic performances and a script that prizes emotional honesty over melodrama, this Singaporean indie gem captures the fleeting intensity of youth and the courage it takes to live—and love—authentically.

I went in expecting a typical road trip movie, but the quiet chemistry between the three leads completely won me over. It’s not flashy—it’s real. The way they handle the love triangle without melodrama felt refreshing. Definitely a hidden gem for fans of slow-burn romance.

The acting is decent and the locations are beautiful, but the script feels underwritten. Key emotional beats are skipped, and the love triangle resolves too neatly without real consequence. I appreciate the attempt at authenticity, but it left me wanting more depth in the character arcs.

Visually, this film is a stunner. The cinematographer really knows how to capture golden-hour landscapes and intimate close-ups that say more than dialogue ever could. The color grading gives everything a nostalgic, almost analog warmth. It’s a mood piece, and I’m here for it.

I appreciated that the film shows queer friendship and romance without leaning into harmful stereotypes. The characters are allowed to be vulnerable and unsure, which feels honest. However, the power dynamics between the two who already have history versus the newcomer could have been explored more critically. Still, a solid effort for its time.

The soundtrack is a quiet star of this film. The indie acoustic tracks and subtle ambient sounds perfectly mirror the emotional shifts of the journey. I found myself Shazaming several songs during the road-trip montages. Music lovers, keep an ear out!
