Welcome to the University of Phayao, where the annual Campus Moon competition isn't just a popularity contest—it's the backdrop for a heart-fluttering romance that has captured the hearts of BL fans worldwide. 2 Moons follows Wayo, a shy and sweet freshman who has harbored a secret crush on the enigmatic second-year student Phana for years. Phana is the reigning Campus Moon: cool, popular, and seemingly untouchable. When Wayo finally enrolls at the same university, he hopes to get closer to his dream guy, but fate has other plans—like accidentally becoming a candidate for the Campus Moon title himself, competing directly against Phana. As the competition heats up, the line between rivalry and affection blurs, and Wayo discovers that his long-held crush might not be as one-sided as he thought. But he's not the only one finding love on campus. The series weaves together multiple love stories, most notably the dynamic duo Ming and Kit, a pair of best friends whose playful bickering slowly gives way to genuine feelings. With a delightful mix of awkward first encounters, stolen glances, and sweetly awkward confessions, 2 Moons captures the giddy, nerve-wracking thrill of first love. Yes, the pacing can be slow, and the acting is admittedly uneven—but that hasn't stopped this show from becoming a beloved classic in Thai BL history. The fluffy, feel-good atmosphere, the stunning campus cinematography, and the undeniable charm of its young cast make it an ideal watch for anyone craving a light, nostalgic romance. It's a series that wears its heart on its sleeve, reminding us all that sometimes, the moon shines brightest when you're not looking for it.

Okay, I know the acting isn't top-tier and the plot is basically SOTUS with pink milk, but I don't even care. Phana and Wayo make me feel so giddy inside. The way Wayo blushes every time Pha looks at him—I'm melting. And don't get me started on the flower scene! It's cheesy, it's slow, it's everything I want from a BL. I've watched it three times already. Perfect for when you need a hug in drama form.

I only watched this for MingKit and they did NOT disappoint. Khem and Copter have insane chemistry—every glance, every argument, every reluctant smile. Their romance actually feels real, unlike the main couple which is just awkward staring. The way Kit gradually falls for his best friend? Perfection. I'm so glad they got their own spin-off. Honestly, if you're here for the side couple, skip the main leads' scenes and you'll have a blast. MingKit forever!

I gave this a fair shot because of the high ratings, but wow—it's a slog. The main couple stares at each other for ten seconds every scene with no emotion. I timed it. The plot is paper-thin: boy likes boy, boy becomes moon, boy gets boy. And the constant repetition of the same lines ("Pha!" "Yo!") drove me insane. The only saving grace is MingKit, but even they can't save this from being a badly paced, poorly acted mess. If you want a good university BL, watch SOTUS instead.

Visually, 2 Moons is actually quite pretty for a low-budget Thai BL. The campus shots are lovely, the lighting in the flower field scenes is gorgeous, and the Moon contest stage design had effort. The editing, though—someone needed to tell the director that slow motion doesn't equal deep emotion. Still, I appreciated the color grading and the attempt to make every frame look like a soft dream. It's not top-tier cinematography, but for 2017, it's decent. The OST also fits the mood well, especially that piano theme.

As someone who read the original 2 Moons novels, I have mixed feelings. The drama captured the general fluff of the book but completely changed the personalities of some characters. Phana in the novel is more playful and expressive, not this stoic statue. Wayo's inner monologue was also lost—he's supposed to be sassy, not just shy. The side couple MingKit was adapted fairly well, though. The biggest crime? The pacing. The book has more plot and character development, but the series drags the same few scenes into twelve episodes. It's an okay adaptation if you just want the gist.

I came for the BL, I stayed for the music. The theme songs in 2 Moons are incredibly catchy—I still have 'Yahk Rer Hur' on repeat. The instrumental piano tracks that play over the emotional scenes are so fitting, they elevate even the cheesiest moments. I actually think the music is what makes the show feel so nostalgic. Every time that soft guitar riff starts, I get chills. The OST alone is worth a watch, and the drama is a cute bonus.

I can't ignore the homophobia rumors surrounding one of the lead actors—the way he reportedly behaved on set and his public comments about playing a gay role left a bad taste. And honestly, the zero chemistry between the main leads makes it even harder to watch. Beyond that, the show perpetuates the typical BL trope of the 'feminine' shy boy being infantilized, while the 'masculine' top barely shows affection. It's problematic. The side couple MingKit had healthier dynamics, but even that felt shallow. As a queer viewer, I want better representation. This series didn't age well.
