Set in the hauntingly beautiful, post-lahar landscape of Pampanga in the late 1990s, *2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten* follows Felix, a brilliant but painfully lonely high school sophomore who escapes his reality through dial-up internet and secret crushes. His sheltered world is shattered when two charismatic half-American brothers, Jameson and Khalil, transfer to his school. Drawn into their orbit, Felix finds himself entangled in a dangerous game of secrets, manipulation, and forbidden desire. As the brothers' mysterious past and desperate ambitions surface, Felix must navigate a labyrinth of lust, betrayal, and violence that threatens to consume them all. Blending coming-of-age intimacy with noir-like mystery, this Filipino indie gem captures the raw, reckless thrill of youth – and the dark choices people make when they feel they have no way out. A slow-burn, atmospheric journey that lingers long after the credits roll.

I wanted to love this because the setup is fantastic – the 90s setting, the mystery of the brothers, the isolation of Felix. But the middle drags, and the climax feels rushed and clumsy. The twist is shocking but not earned. Still, the acting carries it through, and I appreciate that it doesn't shy away from gritty reality. Not bad, just uneven.

Jameson and Felix have this raw, electric chemistry that I can't get enough of. The scene where they finally connect is intense and beautiful – not pornographic, just deeply emotional. I wish the romance had more time to breathe before everything goes dark, but the longing and tension are real. For a film that's more thriller than romance, it made my heart ache.

I'm so tired of seeing gay characters killed off, suicidal, or broken just to make a 'dark' story. This script feels like it was pulled from the 1980s. The only straight character survives and gets a nude scene? Come on. The acting is good, but the narrative perpetuates harmful stereotypes about queer lives. We deserve stories where we don't have to die for the plot.

Visually, this film is stunning. The hazy, sepia-toned shots of post-lahar Pampanga, the dimly lit bedrooms, the grainy texture – it all screams late 90s indie cinema. The camera lingers on faces in a way that feels intimate and voyeuristic. The story and pacing let the visuals down, but I could watch the cinematography on repeat. A feast for the eyes even if the script stumbles.

I was expecting the music to be a standout given the 90s setting, but honestly, I can't recall a single track after finishing. There's some ambient noise and a few licensed songs, but nothing that elevates the mood or becomes iconic. The lack of a strong audio identity is a missed opportunity. The film could have benefited from a memorable score.
