In the quiet, melancholic heart of Thailand’s Khon Kaen, Thod—a young man who likens himself to a black hole—carries the weight of an unresolved past. The only person who ever truly understood him was Nick, his tutor and confidant, a brother-like figure who saw beyond Thod’s emotional void. But time, distance, and the unspoken feelings between them have left a chasm that neither can bridge. Told through wistful flashbacks and present-day reflections, *1626* is a gentle, introspective prequel to the series *Pieces of Me*. It peels back the layers of Thod’s memories: the summer afternoons, the quiet glances, the words left unsaid. More than a romance, this miniseries is a meditation on growing up, letting go, and the bittersweet ache of first love. With only two episodes, it delivers a poignant, character-driven story that lingers long after the final scene—proving that even the darkest holes can hold light.

I came in wary after hearing the initial plot rumors, so I'm relieved they changed it. But the execution still feels clunky—the flashback structure is confusing, and the second half drags. The acting can't quite sell the more emotional beats, which hurts the payoff. It's decent for a two-episode prequel, but not memorable.

This little story really tugged at my heart. The way Tod and Nick care for each other, even if their feelings remain ambiguous, is so tender and real. I loved the soft color palette and the quiet moments between them—it's the kind of slow-burn that rewards patient viewers. The open ending felt right for this mood piece.

I appreciate that the show avoided the controversial underage premise, but the age gap still feels uncomfortable to me. Nick is clearly an authority figure (a tutor), and Tod is a teenager. While nothing improper happens, the power imbalance is there, and the show doesn't really address it. As a reflection on first love, it's sweet, but I needed a bit more maturity in handling consent dynamics.

Visually, this is a gem. Every shot is composed like a photograph—soft golden light, shallow depth of field, and a muted color palette that screams nostalgia. The flashback transitions are graceful, and the way they use mirrors and windows to show emotional distance is clever. Even if the plot is minimal, the director's eye makes it worth watching for any fan of visual storytelling.

The music is the real star here—the gentle guitar melody that plays during the flashbacks perfectly captures that sense of aching nostalgia. However, the sound mixing sometimes drowns out the dialogue, and the OST isn't memorable enough to hum afterward. A decent effort, but other BL miniseries have stronger musical identities.
